Thank you. This case hit home. My mom claims she doesn't know why it's hard to love me, but still won't admit it has anything to do with losing her first love and fiancé b/c they cheated on each other while he was deployed and she was away at college. They could get past each other cheating, yet he couldn't get past her having another man's child from it, and I honestly think that's why she gave up, never tried to get to know me, and sent us to live with family members when I was a week old. She doesn't see the connection, but the fact that she was able to love her husband's kids, but not me should tell her something. I honestly think when children come from unfavorable messes that illegitimate parents create, then it's better to give them up for adoption into a suitable family who will love them rather than bouncing around with family you burden them with and foster care - they're usually treated like throw away children in circumstances like that, so if these illegitimate parents aren't man and woman enough to treat the children right, then just give them to a family who actually wants them and will treat them right right...

Sometimes we are victims, though. This trope that Black women have to be "warriors" all the time is part of the reason so many sisters are depressed out here. I'm not saying the daughter has made all the right decisions in life, because she clearly needs to get herself together and do better, but teenagers say and do dumb things--that doesn't make them any less victims of parents' poor decisions.
@4nomenal28
Жыл бұрын
Of course we are victims often, but when you heal, you become a survivor! You have to want that. Yes, we deserve to take our capes off, and the sooner you let go of the pain,, you can do so.I just don't think she should have treated her mom so badly for doing her best. It's the same as when I hear so many blaming their moms for absent dads. Most women don't chose that.
@ambzcloud
Жыл бұрын
@Monique Shuntae I totally get what you're saying about wanting to heal. And I certainly think that absent fathers are solely responsible for their decisions to be absent. But I'd also wager that a woman who is having unprotected sex with a married man is aware that she is making a choice that will likely harm any potential offspring of that union, whether it's in regard to child support or physical presence. The mother here seems like she has been supportive of her daughter and I really respect and appreciate that. I definitely don't think she's one of those demon mothers. I just wish more people would give credit to the fact that you don't just reach the age of adulthood and suddenly have no negative feelings toward the things that hurt you when you were a minor. Most Black folks don't talk about the importance of therapy and mental health wellness, so I can't be mad at her for not knowing how to stop feeling victimized and be a "warrior". She never even finished high school. She couldn't really vocalize a general plan for how she was going to get from point A to B in her life, so I suspect that she doesn't even think about wanting to heal; she just lives in the moment [and then makes bad decisions].

An absent parent can spew a life time of trauma. 1st by not being present, next by telling the child lies about the active parent. They are never there to see the results of the trauma caused.

The mom didn't try her best. One of the most important decisions you can make for your child is who you create them with. The mother slept with a married man and brought forth a child. We give our black mothers every excuse, smh. The standars in our community are low.

The mother should have told her daughter the truth from the beginning regardless… I bet she didn’t get her counseling for realizing that she was bought up in a lie.. seems like the mother is guilty now and has the nerve to wonder why her daughter doesn’t like her or has trust issues smh I hope she gets counseling soon.

This was annoying as hell. “Love is bigger than money” so you take advantage of your moms love and money and think you shouldn’t pay because you were brought into this world from an affair, girl bye. And the using depression as an excuse for everything is getting old and tired! She said it didn’t “stick” meaning she wasn’t interested anymore like lmao judge Mathis be falling for the bs all the time.

I do agree that a that would cause a lot of trauma finding out about your dad but i feel like as you get older you can’t just be throwing that excuse to not like your mom around and then still ask for money and favors. I heard favoritism not abuse. it’s normal to feel favoritism between siblings but some parents won’t even hold themselves accountable or let alone help their kids out pass 18.

I’m trying to figure out what the mom needed to take accountability for. You’re father didn’t want to be in your life. Your moms husband did. They thought it would be best to wait until you were old enough to understand the situation before they told you. A messy family member thought different. Where was mom wrong?

@Sydni Taylor as someone who has a ain't ish mother I know how it is to need your mother and help ur parents but when you need help it comes with conditions that woman wasn't that great of a mom and now she has to deal with consequences u can't scam ur own parents especially when they scam you of a childhood and then gaslight u as an adult that is not normal it's still her parent

This girl is blaming everyone for her short comings , she gets in trouble and then she runs to her mom to help her . This girl needs to get herself together and stop all of this pity party mess
