On a hot and steamy Sunday at the beginning of July, I went out to Essex to see a Chinese steam engine hauling passengers around the Valley. Aside from getting some sunburn, I had a great time. This really is an underappreciated railroad, although they did seem to have some mostly full trains today. How many other railroads consistently run steam every weekend? Sure there's Strasburg, but if you're in New England, this is your best bet. This was also a special weekend because they had a PRR caboose on the rear of the consist. Keep an eye out for more content in a week or two as I'll be seeing some mainline steam next week.
