I was staying in New Jersey, and one of the recommendations I got online for a good railfanning spot was Denville, NJ. It's the junction of the NJ Transit Hackettstown and Morristown Lines, and during the week it is fairly busy. Apparently there were a couple of special wrap units; NJT 4502, an ALP-45DP in an US Armed Forces commemorative wrap, and NJT 4640, an ALP-46 wrapped in the original NJT "Disco Stripe" scheme as a 40th anniversary heritage unit. I missed both of these, and they never wound up returning on outbound trains that evening.
However I did catch one of NJT's F40PH-2CAT locomotives, albeit a terrible shot on a narrow platform with obstructions in both directions. I also caught one of Metro North's GP40FH-2 engines as well. The sun didn't really help with the trip as because the line is east/west, the sun was directly over the westbound direction (duh, that's what happens every afternoon).
Afterward I went back to Summit Station and caught a few more trains before calling it a day. Nice meeting you @ntrains21!
