In the Keweenaw, it's a sure sign of summer when Four Suns Fish & Chips opens for the season. This locally-beloved restaurant belongs to the Peterson family, a name locally known to the Copper Country for their long-running Peterson Fish Market. From lake to plate, the story of Four Suns is an intricately choreographed effort by the Peterson family and their crews.
One of the eponymous "Four Suns," Captain Chris brings in the day's haul through the Keweenaw Waterway Upper Entrance. His keen knowledge of what keeps the whitefish cold and live up till harvest provides the freshest catch, and once on land the haul is whisked to the fish market. It's not uncommon that the fish gets immediately filleted and into Four Sun's kitchen for prep - so it's no hyperbole to say that your meal is some of the freshest Lake Superior fish you'll ever have.
Pat and Tammie run a tight operation at Four Suns, managing a constant stream of folks looking for their famous fish and chips. Here, the chaos and beauty of family comes together to feed their community. Laughter in the kitchen joins the din of conversation outside. In the view of the Quincy Mine, folks can truly partake in the essence (and flavor!) of the Keweenaw.
