I had one of the most amazing dreams
Far better than the others, or though, it seems
Filled with laughter and love
From cancer warriors everywhere
I entered St. Jude’s, greeted by nurse aides
And a warrior, wearing cool red-framed shades
And he pointed and yelled, “Hey! I know you!”
“They call you JerBear!”
We hugged, we fist-bumped, had pictures taken
The next thing I knew, our hands were shakin’
And he squeezed my “Jered Bear”
Oh, so tight
He says, “I’m glad you made it here to St. Jude’s”
“I’ve met a lot of other cancer warrior dudes”
“And I got to meet JerBear during my courageous fight”
The next thing I knew, I moved on ahead
And St. Baldrick’s had a buzzin’ shavin’ razor to my head
And all the warriors were gathered ‘round
To watch and see
They had water and pop and punch and juice
And cocoa, all of which I’d kindly refuse
And said, “No, thanks; Alex’s Lemonade tastes mighty fine”
“To me”
Well, I heard a cry from down the hall
And it grabbed the attention of us all
So, I led a fleet of warriors
To go check it out
A little warrior had to get a few pokes
And was distracted by me sittin’ there, tellin’ jokes
I wiped a tear and made him smile
Hey, that’s what it’s all about
I’ve heard lots of stories from lots of kids
The kind of willpower cancer never forbids
With so much love and gratitude from mom
And dad
Warriors wore their capes and wore their Beads
And rang the bell, and we raised proceeds
For St. Jude; a hundred million bucks doesn’t sound
So bad
I hope, in my dreams, this will happen again
Only next time, I hope it’ll never end
And I’ll trail off in my sleep to my
Happy place
If only I could carry
This dream into reality
I’d wake up every morning with a smile
On my face
