I sincerely miss people with real talent and the perseverance to master an instrument. No drum machine or auto-tune. No talking into the mic because they can't sing. Music in the US is at an all time low. Thank you for your channel and bringing back the real...
@0okamino

I can't really bash on the use of drum machines. For instance, They Might Be Giants used them a lot. Of course, that's because John and John were too busy playing the other instruments. For their situation, there's also the matter of drum sets being not just expensive, but a chore to lug around to live shows as well. :)
@p.h.5752

@@0okamino You have just erased Buddy Rich, Senri Kawaguchi, Neil Peart, Billy Cobham, Lenny White, Akane Hirose and too many others to mention. Brainless lazy music has drum machines. Intricate thinking 🤔 music has a drummer. Jazz, progressive rock, even a pit orchestra. If you just want to keep time, get a metronome.
@0okamino
2 жыл бұрын
@@p.h.5752 How did I erase them? Did I say that drummers aren't needed at all? No. Did I say that a drum machine can or even should replace the skill and talent of all those people? No. I would never claim either of those things. TMBG did expand into a full band with actual drummers for many years now. Oh, or did I somehow also "erase" Marty Beller, Brian Doherty, Dan Hickey, and JD Feinberg by not declaring drum machines to be the most evil, horrible things to have ever existed? Am I "erasing" Claude Coleman if I don't consider Ween's use of drum machines on some tracks to be nothing less than a heinous crime against humanity itself?

@fnj006 When I say real music and real singing I'm talking about back then you had to be able to sing for real and you didn't have computers to help alter to your voice. You have to be to play instruments for real and play them right and you didn't have computers to help you. Today too many artists they just throw the stuff together any kind of old way. They don't seem to be interested in the quality of the work like these artists were 40, 50, 60 years ago.
@jonmayes2422
2 жыл бұрын
@fnj006 We also have to make sure we took time out to do a good quality job. We couldn't take shortcuts back in. If you didn't do a good job and do a quality job it would show up in your act. If you did that too much you weren't going to be working very long. Today many artists seem to be able to get away with that kind of stuff. I can tell good quality work versus something that somebody just threw together.

I play bass in a 70s disco band and have wanted to add this to the repertoire for a while now. Mad props to the singer being able to sing lead vocals whilst playing. I also play guitar and typically it is much, much trickier playing bass at the same time as singing lead vocals compared to doing it with a guitar. It has a bit to do with the counter rhythms that Dan often occur. Sting and Geddy Lee are a couple of noted bass playing lead vocalists, but both admit how hard it is and how they have to do special types of practising to make it seem natural.
