National Electric Vehicle Sweden, NEVS, which took over the Saab factory in Trollhättan after its bankruptcy, has secretly developed a hyper-modern EV. auto motor & sport Sweden was given the exclusive opportunity to drive the car on public roads for first time ever.
In 2019, NEVS was given a mission by its owner, the Chinese real estate giant Evergrande, to build a modern EV with wheel hub motors. After just nine months, they had a car that was more or less ready for serial production: the Emily GT!
Had it not been for the Covid-19 pandemic causing a real estate-crisis in China, we would probably already be seeing NEVS' EV on the streets in both China and Sweden. Perhaps NEVS would even be a flourishing company. But, things played out differently and now the project is dead - although there is still hope it will reach production.
We have visited NEVS and our Editor-in-Chief Alrik Söderlind was allowed to test drive one of the Emily GT prototypes on its maiden voyage on public roads and in normal traffic.
The car's driving characteristics are fantastic and on the inside it's spacious. There are also a lot of exciting technical solutions. In a lot of ways, it's a modern-day Saab!
The full test drive is available on our website, or in issue 9/2023 of the mag (both in Swedish): www.mestmotor.se/automotorspo...
