I love the pre-chorus of "Can you hear the choir sing?" It just sounds fantastic, there's something about having the harmony and the sudden higher tone (I don't know music terms, have mercy on me 😅) just really sounds fantastic before they start singing their hearts out in the chorus. You can feel the passion in their voices and it's so beautiful to see so much passion in the Bloodborne community. I absolutely love this song, it's up there with Paleblood Moon and Valhalla Calling as my favourite Miracle of Sound song.
@cvrc11
5 жыл бұрын
After listening to the song many times, I finally got the relationship between this and Paleblood Moon - PBM is sort of analogous to the game's pre-release marketing, focusing on the beast plague and the parts of the story and setting that are basically a werewolf horror story set in faux-Victorian times, which is all the game pretended to be when it was released. There are hints in the lyrics of the grander, more cosmic story, but they mostly come at the very end with the ominous line "The ones who would never be will find a vessel in the Paleblood Moon" - a teaser for the Lovecraftian elements of the story, but without directly addressing them in the song. This song, meanwhile, is about the game Bloodborne becomes from Rom onwards, a Lovecraftian cosmic horror. Right from the first line it's talking about the Byrgenwerth scholars' obsession with "eyes on the inside" and referencing the common Lovecraft trope of knowledge being a curse that condemns one to madness, and it culminates by fully embracing that weird, surreal, eldritch themes of the story by repeating the chorus of the first song, but replacing references to beasthood with references to ascension and apotheosis. Where before the Paleblood "guides our way" towards "embracing the changes" and "being consumed" (by the beast within), now it's clear that that was never the ultimate goal, and that what it's really guiding us towards is "ascending beyond the real" and becoming either gods... or their food. More so than any other time Gavin has done two songs about the same game, these two feel like they are two halves of a whole, each telling half of Bloodborne's story, with Thousand Eyes delivering the pay-off promised by the final lines of Paleblood Moon four years ago. I think it actually retroactively makes Paleblood Moon a better song, because as good as it was it always felt like it didn't get weird and eldritch enough for a Bloodborne song, whereas now that very restraint becomes its biggest asset when paired with this follow-up.
@HighPriestFuneral

Brilliant analysis! That is a wonderful way to look at it. I think too that it is a wonderful "prologue" in fact, you could say that the first song is the one that is lacking in "Insight" until the last lines where it is too late to step back and see the larger picture (First or second endings). This song fits the theme of the "seals" being broken and so do not hide the darkness that lay beyond the curtains.
@colinsmith5373

As far as other multisong games, I feel like Ode to Fury and A Father's Arms do capture two very different aspects of Kratos - who he feels like on the inside, and he presents himself. Doesn't have the sense of progression these two have as the listener and/or singer rack up Insight, though...

I think paleblood moon's 3 verse is a reflection of the 3 endings. 1)Gehrman kill you, you wake up, it was all a dream, your life goes on. 2) the hunt is forever, and you are stuck in gehrman's place 3) transcended it all with the cords

(old comment, I know) But I wouldn't call it odd. I have depression and find metal to be a great mood lifter, especially the grand orchestral pieces like it. It generates a similar feeling off awe to standing in a large cathedral or dramatic architectural piece, and, topic wise, the 'out there'ness of cosmic horror, though it's called horror, is harder to be afraid of than the things much closer to human.

Alternatively, it just refers to the belief of the Byrgenwerth scholars and all who built from their work that Enlightenment would involve growing literal eyes inside of their skulls, and they dissected the fishmen of the hamlet to look for them. Even though they were wrong, it's used by various people in the setting (though it's never clear how literally any of them mean it) to refer to enlightenment / insight. Additional eyes are literally the curse of the wise, driving them mad with the sight of those things man was not meant to know - like the giant fucking spider monster hanging out in the center of town. It's *very* much a Bloodborne song and not really anything else.

@@Konig1223 Oh hell yeah! The way it works for my character is that the main conflict of the campaign revolves around a Baron, once friend to a character in the party, finding the right eye of a forgotten goddess of civilization. The party, after talking with the Man of Mirrors (think Outsider from Dishonored) is tasked with finding the five shards of the left eye. Eventually they find them all and purify it. My character took on the burden of sacrificing his left eye to place the Eye of the World in his head to combat the right eye that corrupted the Baron. Plenty of other Eldritch ideas were included in this campaign as well.

As if my profile icon wasn't enough of a giveaway, I love Bloodborne. This takes the elements of both of your styles and melds them together beautifully. The appreciation of the lore in the lyrics, the building of the song through the perspectives of different characters and the crescendo calling back to the hook of 'Paleblood Moon' all just works beutifully. Like the founder of us Hunters With a blade of siderite I'm upholding this tradition Killing Hunters in the night Whether I'm one of the kind ones Or a bloodlust-fuelled wench It's just a matter of perspective And whose blood your thirst will quench And can you hear the choir sing? The Hanged Man knows the way Mercy's cure to suffering To the Dream's Host, Death, I pray A thousand eyes open inside To grant me sight to see the end A thousand eyes the curse of the wise Into the madness I descend Among them I'm called a hero And for them I will be brave Though my detractors call me monster They, too, I will also save And with "guidance" from the heavens The Holy Moonlight shines my way I ride out into the battle The beast scourge my quest to slay And can you hear the choir sing Of these blood-stained, old events? The road to hell is, after all, Paved with good intents A thousand eyes open inside To grant me sight to see the end A thousand eyes the curse of the wise Into the madness I descend Though my ailing body brought me For a cure to save my life What my search for "paleblood" wrought me Was a life of death and strife However many times I triumph However many times I fall The nightmare still keeps going Consuming one and all And can you hear the choir sing? The blood-borne power howl Secrets are unravelling As Yharnam's streets I prowl A thousand eyes open inside To grant me sight to see the end A thousand eyes the curse of the wise Into the madness I descend A thousand eyes open inside To grant me sight to see the end The more that I see It's glorious to me And through the madness I ascend

@@amyroberts8978 Thank you very much. ^^ What's your favourite verse or line? Personally, I'm really conflicted: I liked how Eileen's verse turned out, both for the allusions to Bloodborne's extensive use of Tarot imagery as well as the nod to the fact that the true nature of the Hunter of Hunters' work is really ambiguous in the game and the subtle inference of how to get the best ending in Eileen's questline... but then I also really think I nailed just about everything in Ludwig's verse, from the lore allusions and references to Ludwig's own words when we talk with him, to the "ride out into the battle" nudge at his transformation, and the nod to how the Hunter's Nigtmare is based upon Naraka/Jigoku/Hell according to Buddhism... and though I personally kinda regard it as the weakest one, I'm still very proud of the Good Hunter's verse as well...

It is strange I feel the first part is the Old Hunter's perspective, the second part Byrgenwerth's Scholars' perpspective The chorus is the life of the Hunter we incarnate And in the end, something lurking in the shadows is pushing us to attain a new form, to seek perfection, maybe Patches... or something else

I know I’m many moons late but still I must rate this sound fine! There are tiny references to plots that I love the first part especially since it’s basically a tribute to gehrman who as much as he wishes to escape the dream will ensure nobody else will suffer it; as well as the little reference that this IS the healing church’s fault The fall of the choir (I think) at the pre-chorus, since the choir and church did fall during the hunt- then of course there’s the BLOOD addicting chorus which references how much of a curse insight is (looking at you garden of eyes and winter lanterns). I also liked Master Willems part, which I think is like him lamenting over his relationship with Laurence before he left to made to what would soon be the healing church; wishing he could’ve warned/taught Laurence enough to not mess with the old blood. Of course the absolute DUST thrown at the healing church with that pre-chorus with the “prayers on lips of liars” (cause we ALL know how stuff went when they were experimenting with the blood in the DLC), and the of course thirst and hunger for insight by bygernwerth, the healing church and choir. I never really got the final prechorus, truthfully, I always thought of it as Mergo the child of Yharnam, or reference to the Orphan of Kos (because of the “the ones who will never be, behold the end with a thousand eyes” since Mergo was taken by the great one since it was known that Great Ones will take children and raise them as their own if they lose their own child; and Kos… well, you’ll have to see the fishing hamlet on that one). Even with all THAT; this, and JTs rap got me into Bloodborne, and despite me spoiling myself for the cosmic horror it STILL shocked me, so hearing this again (instead of pretending to know what it means but ACTUALLY knowing (or having the insight)) feels so good to understand it all- I ponder on this perch if you may some day make another, either of Bloodborne, or of a song that will reel me into another game… hmmm… only time may tell, but as of now, I must return to my hunt.
