My great grandfather worked at that theater in the photo the Keith Albee theater. Down the street was the new theater which he also worked at painting movie posters. It was torn down in 2011 and is now an empty lot. Next to the new theater was the first umbrella factory in the USA. The keith theater is still there its the tan and white building with the original front at 10:05 and was a wig store for a long time. The theater portion was torn down for a parking lot out back

My father in law has a old 1946 small airplane, their family is the second owner of it since new.. One day a stranger calls up as asked if he still owns the plane... Says I was in a second hand store in Texas and saw a picture of your plane.. He purchased the picture for my father in law and sent it to him..He was able to track him down by the N number. Now in my Father in Laws house hangs a photo of his plane and two guys in Derby hats in a field from the late forties.. (8x11 black and white)..

Dan the building that you like in the end is the old headquarters for BGE... they built a new building in front of it in the 60’s when Charles center was built. Bge used to take up both buildings, now only the one in the front. Lexington street used to cross Charles street. This was all also the same time the arena and Hopkins plaza were built.

Dan, if I understand it correctly Baltimore's issue is that the population plummeted after the heavy industry left, so you've now got too many buildings to serve too few people? Thus whole areas are abandoned much like Detroit and elsewhere, which is a shame because the beautiful buildings go the same way as the ugly ones. I love art deco personally - it's my favourite architectural style. Of course the reason that buildings adopted these simple geometric shapes is actually rather prosaic - they were cheaper to build than the styles which came before them, and there wasn't much money around in the early 30s...

I was lucky to have a childhood friend (just reconnected a few years ago), who's a genius at finding things from our childhood. I was surprised to see a couple of pix of the drugstore with a roomful of booths, which was shown inside and out *with signs welcoming servicemen during WW2.* And the little movie theater where we spent lots of Saturdays is now a restaurant---with the ticket booth still outside the entrance. You can't go home again, since it probably isn't there as you remember it, but it's great to see photos of it as it was. I love your videos!

There's a site called Shorpy that posts old photographs every day. It's awesome. Visitors to the site can comment on the photos and there's a ton of information about almost everything in them. One of the commentors posts "now" photographs he (or she) takes with their own camera showing the identical current views of what is in the photographs. It's fascinating. Search timeandagainphoto (the commentor's name) on the Shorpy site and it pulls up those comparisons. He (or she) may have their own website for that, too.

I joined Pinterest because I kept coming across railroad photos and discovered they post all sorts of "Abandoned" pix---but hardly ever any info on where they were taken. Very frustrating, tho once in a while---rarely!---the photog does print something useful. However, even then you can't look them up because Google and KZitem don't have anything on 'em. But of course, I can't NOT look!

Glass-fronted International-Style buildings with vertical blinds were common in the '50s and '60 prior to Brutalism. Sadly, the glass facade design easily traps both heat and humidity like a greenhouse, making it the perfect breeding ground for black mold when they get abandoned like this.

Tiffany McGraw Unfortunately it is happening all over the United States. My childhood home will always be in my heart. We moved to another town when the violence and crime got so bad. Beautiful architecture that is ruined by vandals. Abandoned, gorgeous homes hosting drug heads. So sad. Our dear friends are stuck living there. They can’t afford to move, due to a health issue. We were sitting on their patio enjoying a summer evening and could hear gun shots in the distance. They have a beautiful home , but their property value has gone down. So sad.

Well the buildings that are in fine condition and for lease are likely going to be left out of use due to the presence of some dilapidated buildings on the block, like the one covered in mold. It really makes property value drop, but those who want to lease a good building on the same block can only afford to lower the price so much. I'm guessing the offers by all potential buyers have been too low for the current owners. That moldy ass building has got to be either demolished or scrubbed to Hell and then everything repaired/replaced. It's just a really hefty ordeal, but I doubt many of those buildings will see much if any commercial use as long as that moldy building stays as it is.
