I left Coventry in 1979 and last visited about 25 years ago. I'm shocked at some of the monstrosities that have replaced the beautiful old buildings.

I grew up in the city and there are many things I miss desperately, especially mum and dad!

Brilliant Video James. I’m only 29 however the city has changed dramatically since i was a child and in my opinion not for the good either.

As the city was being bombed in 1940/41 a local architect was checking his plans to see what work he didn't have to do as he had plans to change the city. I am in awe of your work. Thanks, James!

Josephine Phillips And while he was doing that my fireman grandfather and his captain my great grandfather were being told to waste time putting out the flames of the burning cathedral an empty pointless building..and collecting bodies from what I was told.

A couple of captioning errors but, notwithstanding, very nicely done, James! Being born there in 1946, I remember largely from the 1950's-60's but, for me, the city has subsequently lost its heart, focus and direction. Even poor old Lady Godiva was shuffled off from centre-stage in the middle of Broadgate to a non-descript location, where people walk past and ignore the historical significance. It's almost as if she's an embarrassment... I suppose in a way that's symptomatic of Coventry, being a place where the 'planners' rushed to complete the job that the Luftwaffe started in November 1940; unfortunately, the 'planners' seem more efficient than the Luftwaffe... Such a shame - and what a completely wasted opportunity. I migrated in 1972 and each time I return on a visit (last time was in 2019), the city seems to have deteriorated further. PS. I forgot to add that it was nice of you to use an arrangement of the Coventry Carol as the backing music; most appropriate.

Thanks Chris - I intend to rectify the errors in a newer release looking at different parts of Coventry (This video was made several years ago now - I'm sure there are all kinds of changes I can explore in a follow up) Feel free to subscribe btw!

I find the city centre cleaner and greener in 1970s, maybe it is due to the angle of the picture.

Heh, I got quite a start from that one too. Guild Church, Collegiate Church, left empty and then a Parish Church ... no, we didn't have another Cathedral :-D
