07:50 Looks like one of the types of fan palms to me. 12:30 The hibiscus you speak of is called roselle. In my country we call it sorrel and use it to make a Christmas drink. It's de-seeded, boiled with cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, (bay leaf if you feel like it) and once it's cooled it's sweetened. The traditional recipe also calls for a dash of red rum but you don't really taste the alcohol in it so children drink it as well. After it's strained off most people discard the flesh but my grandmother used to just put it back on the fire with sugar and boil it down to make jam. It's already infused with the flavours from the spices so no other additions are necessary. Thanks for the tour. It's great to see what a lot you are growing!

Lovely video and love what you are doing in your property. The Monstera plant you placed in the fountain may not be the best choice because it is a climbing plant and will need support eventually, it’s also a shade plant and will burn when exposed to direct sun. Perhaps another flowering hibiscus may work instead or a palm ? Gardenias are always a great flowering option.

Hi Jael, have you thought about planting arrow roots around the mtaro? Growing up in Nyeri, my mom used to plant nduma around the pigsty, as we used to keep pigs. The ndumas did very well. Also, around the rivers, I used to see a lot of ndumas growing and flourishing. When I saw your mtaro, I could already visualize ndumas growing and enjoying them for dinner. Just a thought 😅.

It seems as if it was yesterday that you were planting most of this stuff. The vegetation is going to offset the swampy conditions. The hibiscus is what we call sorrel in my home. In the US, I’ve seen is as Jamaican hibiscus. You can use it to make a drink. You boil water with ginger and seep the hibiscus in it overnight. Sweeten to taste, it’s delicious over ice. You can make pepper sauces too. Search for Trinidadian pepper sauce on KZitem. Trinidadians make awesome pepper sauces. I’m so happy for you!
