Thank you, not only for the tour of your streetside garden, but for letting us know from the get-go exactly where you are. A "hellstrip" in Vancouver is quite different from one in Albuquerque. But I can look and admire anyway.

There is a bright chartreuse grass under your mailbox starting at 5:32. What is that? Also around then you showed a purple salvia in bloom but didn’t mention it. What variety is it? Congrats on how gorgeous it all is. Why do you call it the hellstrip? I appreciated the calm pacing & all the plant ID’s.

Janet, that is Pennisetum '24 Karat', a really good one. I'm looking for more. The salvia is 'Caradonna'.

@@PhillipOliver I have some Caradonna salvia. I planted it last year and some did not come back this year, some did and looks OK, some came back and looks bigger and amazing. Do you have good luck with it coming back? I am in zone 8b in the PNW Olympia, WA. Re. that pennisetum it really looks amazing. I am reading on google that pennisetum can be invasive so that makes me nervous. Thanks for your reply!

@@JWHealing I'm in the same zone (Vancouver, WA). I've had the salvia for years and it has always come back until this year and I lost a few. The key with salvias is to make sure they have excellent drainage in the winter months. I've had no problem with the pennisetum reseeding.

@@PhillipOliver Thanks for all the info. Yes I assumed drainage would be OK w/the salvia as they are planted at the top of a slope but I think I often plant in a little crater so it's easier to water in summer so that could have caused too much moisture in fall/winter/spring. Maybe the ones that came back weren't in craters. I'll have to check. Good to hear about the pennisetum. So I'll put it back onto my maybe list. :-) So why do you think you lost a few salvias this year? BTW re. the Caradonna salvia I like it because it's an early salvia, and of course it looks cool. Do you also have different mid or late season salvias or are you good at getting your Caradonna salvia to rebloom significantly through summer & fall?
