Jay, your gutters will freeze and the ice will backup into the gutters. My solution was to use the vinnal gutters and down spouts where at the ends of the gutters, I could pop the end-caps off and the ice wouldn't back up. Also, the downspouts would need to be kept about 2 feet off the ground so that any ice water would run off instead of freezing.

Good idea with the cutting into hill with green house... as that mass earth area can be used for maintaining the temperatures as well as other things. ... Sounds like fun ... all the goals... An idea before you close up the sides of the cabin... I would put in a good number of pier blocks ... inside and outer walls every four feet or such ... and then cut a custom length of a 6x6 or 8x8 block of wood and add extra support... if the hill, cold thaw and so on or the wood posts rot (they will) the blocks will help to keep the place in place. Having some black 55 gallon drums along one edge of the greenhouse wall ... with water and heated by sunlight will help for next winter some.
@OffgridwithJayandJen

I'm in SE Mich and those plants really do help repel mosquitos.
