lovely video.... I lived in Exeter many many years ago and sometimes miss it....pity to see so much built up now ..the countryside rapidly disappearing, and the wild life with it. Sad.... 70/75 % reduction in most insects, plants, trees, animals since the 1970s....

Love this video, I was a Royal Marine in the early sixties and travelled this line many times whilst stationed at Lymestone. Dare I say I walked back to Camp along the line from Exmouth after a night out on numerous occasions. Terrible I know but that was then. This part of the Country is beautiful and always holds fond memories for me. Thanks for a great video.

By far the best video of this area I have seen, alas I only ever travelled by car or train on the other side of the river to Dawlish and Torquay etc..well filmed and no noisy music....

Always enjoyed riding this line. Came down from Barnstaple one day,and decided to ride on to Exmouth. No time to buy a ticket so I explained to the Manager, who said,ok,give me the fare on the way. Always friendly staff on this line. Lovely video!

Great to see. I was down two weeks ago with my family at Devon Cliffs. Walked from Lympstone Village to Lympstone Commando where I was a young recruit 30 years ago. Travelled this line many times back then. 😃. Thanks for posting.

Lovely video, many thanks. Sound would add obviously, but hasn't detracted from my enjoyment of the journey. Brought back memories of when I used to regularly holiday in Exmouth around 35 years ago! Many many thanks for posting, and I will be sure to look at your other videos. Makes me yearn to go back to Exmouth!! :-)

I cycle this from Exeter and regularly as the cycle path follows all the way to Topsham on the right of the line. The best bit? If you fancy a few beers on the way back at Lympstone, Exton or Topsham and have a few too many to ride, you can just jump on back to Exeter.

The two main stations in Exeter (Central & St. David's) seem to have unusually long platforms - were they built that way originally to accommodate long holiday trains? (As a boy in 1969 I travelled from Birmingham to Paignton on a holiday special which consisted of 18 Mk. 1 coaches laboriously hauled by a Class 45 - at some stations the train had first to load/unload the forward half before moving up to load/unload the rear).

Yes. Everything was loco hauled in up to the early 90's

@@RailMart I recall holidaying in Teignmouth on the Exeter - Newton Abbot line a number of years ago , and the station there has an unusally long platform too, only half of which is now used.
