Don't use that aktiv head when it is raining or snowing!!!! Corrosion!! I used the aktiv 8 two times when it was snowing. I was absolutely surprised when suddenly the speed swap was not working anymore. Sending it to the check they said that water entered into the head...and Sachtler said, that I have to pay the repair of 850 box, because the head is not meant to be used while raining or snowing...never a Sachtler head again...sorry guys, I expected more quality!

The old Sachtler Hotpod used to have a similar working leveling system. But after a few years of use, just picking up the tripod and putting it down again would knock the head of level. I wonder if this system has a better build quality.

Good idea. But first problem I can see is when using a slider you will now have to balance the slider AND the head?! This takes twice as long, possibly longer. How are you meant to know the slider is level (you can’t go by the tripod head as that might not be level itself!). Before, you just twisted the head onto the slider (automatically level), and adjusted the slider to be level. Now you have to get the slider straight (does your slider have a bubble?) then add the head, and then get the head straight 🤷🏻♂️
@oliverleslie7382

In my opinion the bubble method is inherently flawed. I will always only trust what I see in my lenses and the monitors. No floor is true level and the subject wont be true level. Use your eyes to establish horizons.

Since the minimum payload is now 0Kg and Sachtler plates often being compatible with Manfrotto plates, I'd now opt for the Aktiv 8 rather than the 8T. Before the Aktiv came along, I was planning on gettting the FSB 8T. That 0Kg changed my mind as I will now be able to use something as small as a Sony α6300 on it as well if I ever need to. Since I currently use Manfrotto (504 and 502 heads), it makes a lot of sense for me. .....I hope that was of some use to you in making a decision.

A camera has a 2 year lifespan; a tripod can go 20+ years. It’s like glass. Stop investing in cameras, start investing in the stuff that makes production profitable. A camera can (and should) be rented for the production - everything else you should own, forever. Buy a quality tripod and you’ll never buy again. I bought a Sachtler USED for $7000 5 years ago and recently sold it for $6000. It’s still in perfect condition.
@joelmulder
4 жыл бұрын
@@AdamBrianDada you are or course absolutely right that a good tripod might last the rest of your life. Still, since I use my camera almost every day, and very often for personal projects, it’d be pretty inefficient for me to have to rent it.
@AdamBrianDada

@@joelmulder you’re not the market then. I don’t even acknowledge I own equipment until a 4-5 figure check is handed over. I would never consider even looking at gear for personal reasons. When I’m not getting paid, the film industry is dead to me. I’d rather go do something fun. Professional gear isn’t for hobbyists. $4000 for a tripod sounds way too much.
