I met him in a mall in California. No one was in the mall and it was really early. He could see that I knew who he was, and he started to walk away. I blurted out - "I love the Rutles!" (that way he would know I was a serious respectable fan and not just a person interested in celebrity) Luckily for me, it worked. He talked to me for 5 minutes and he was very kind and gracious. I was so very grateful that I was able to meet him!!!!

George Harrison was so much more than " a Beatle. " He wisely said, " The Beatles will exist without us. " How true is that? In 2020, the third generation of their original fans are discovering the magical music these four lads from Liverpool created. And George showed himself to be an entrepreneur and humanitarian after the Beatles disbanded. As well, he influenced not only Eric but many more people with his philosophical outlook on life.

Idle's discussion of Harrison's "presentism" and insistence on remaining always aware of the "Four Noble Truths", especially the 3rd, that "it is our nature to die" and we cannot escape death, and the Fourth, that we are our karma (the product of all of our thoughts, words, and deeds; that we are our continuation), is evidenced by Harrison's continuing influence on Idle and Python fandom. George may no longer be alive, yet his karma lives on.

George Harrison gave an interview I think in the 80's where he responded to a question by saying, "But I'm not a Beatle any more. I used to be, and it was another lifetime.'' -or words to that effect. And it really struck me. He wasn't ''a Beatle'' anymore, he was just George, if that can be said.

The more I learn about George, him re-mortgaging his house and studio to make sure Life of Brian got made makes perfect sense when you consider his understanding about life and death. He took a MASSIVE risk but understood that he had one life in this mortal coil and if you have a chance to make your friends happy and leave something important for future generations to discover that will make them laugh as well as enlighten them on the dangers of blind faith in one religion. I'm not sure if he knew how important that film would become but I have an inkling he did

One of the most thoughtful and prepared interviewers around. I was skeptical of him at first when I stumbled on one of his interviews while channel surfing. He was interviewing actress Michelle Moynihan and although I didn’t even know who she was at the time, his penetrating and intelligent questions led to a very interesting conversation that really drew me in. I’ve watched him interview many others since then and they’re always interesting . He also made a very good documentary of singer songwriter Jason Isbell and his wife, musician Amanda Shires, not long ago.
