What a fun find! And so very interesting. Oh I'd just be all over that book. That's one thing that I like, to be unique & different. I just love the early church names like the early church fathers - Irenaeus & Athanasius. Archangela is beautiful. Thanks for doing this. I appreciate you so, so much !

Mitzzi is such a cute name- even if it was from a comic strip! We always wonder why it isn't more popular.

And I thought my name was unusual! I was actually named for one of my mother's WWII Marine Corps buddies. (Yes, my mother was a Marine. I think that would make a great title for my biography that no one will ever write.) Had I been named for the saint whose feast day was on my birthday, I could have been Erasmus. I think Drogo (patron saint of unsightly people) would be great for a boy, or maybe Mathurin (the patron saint of idiots). Maybe Ermengarde for a girl. Though, with all due respect to Fr. Dunn, had I had children, I would have named a boy John and a girl Mary. I like plain names.

In my parents' times and before, they used to name their kids using the Farmers al.anac, which had a table for wvwry months day with saints names. I am glad my parents didnt do it, bec I couldve been named Rosenda 😂😂😂😂. Funnybthing is that of there was no female name in the days list, they femenize it (if you understand) for example, it was to be named Ramon, but it was a girl, they named her Ramona. Then in Puerto Rico many grandparents or great grandparents have very funny wierd, intriguing names.

That is so interesting! Who would have thought the Farmer's Almanac even had saints' names? Rosenda is a pretty name, though- could have been worse, lol

Ha-I had this book! It must have been a reprint; it looked exactly like that, but new-if I recall correctly I ordered it from somewhere. I guess I must’ve given it away as I no longer have it. My youngest is now 17, so it’s been awhile. I remember being amazed by many of the names. But when all was said and done, we chose pretty traditional Catholic names.😂

That is too funny! Yes- the variety of names in it is mind boggling. Makes us wonder what Fr. Dunn would have named his own children if he hadn't been a priest, lol

Not Catholic name but I thought you might find some Croatian names interesting. Vuk (vook)means Wolf. Jabuka (ya) means Apple. Marija with a J. Anjelika (like the spelling).

My father was a Jr. When he was baptized, so the priest told my grandparents they had to switch it to Frederick for the sacramental rite, since there was no St. Fritz. That was very long ago, before WW1. I suspect that that's all changed now.

Wonder if any of the mothers (who attended if there was room) reminded Father that it was the mother who carried and gave birth to the child being baptized. That plan of excluding the mothers certainly wouldn't fly today, right?

If he was Right Reverend then he is not father he is monsignor. At the time of that book, saints were listed by their feast day in the Missal, this is how I got my name. Please also note saints such as st Cyril is both western and eastern rite because he was a Saint before the division which occurred before the division at the fall of Constantinople.
