There are majestic old buildings wherever you walk in Mumbai. The Fort area in particular is a very pleasant place to wander around in. We saw the Flora Fountain, the Prince of Wales Museum, the Rajabai Clock Tower and Bombay University. We spent some time in St Thomas' Cathedral, the oldest existing English building in Mumbai, then went into the large High Court building, surrendering our camera on the way in. We also visited the Jehangir Art Gallery at Kala Ghoda, where we saw some interesting exhibitions and met some of the artists.
In Colaba we went into the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, which has been restored to its former glory after being almost destroyed by a terrorist attack in November 2008. It was built in 1903 by Parsi Industrialist, J. N. Tatta, supposedly after being refused entry to one of the European hotels because he was a "native". The Gateway of India is nearby, but the area was infested with touts, so we made a quick getaway.
