Usually I wait until later in the day to start singing (mainly so that I am better hydrated), but there are many times when that is just not possible. So this warm up routine is good for waking us up, giving our voice a nice work out and is generally a great start to the day. But that doesn't mean that it is exclusively for the morning, you can enjoy this warm up routine at any time of day. Because ultimately, it is going to really warm up your voice!
In this video we start off with some stretches, because singing is a full body thing. And there are some tongue stretches too, can't forget about that pesky tongue! Then we find our breath with some inhales, breath holds and exhales before moving on to two SOVT exercises. The first of our SOVTs is some arpeggios to a hum and the second is a lip bubble to a five note scale, but you can do your favourite SOVT of choice. After a quick drinks break (hydrate!) we do some interval slides to an open ahh vowel and then after that do another lovely slide following a five note scale to alternating oohs and eees. Our final exercise is a building melodic pattern singing numbers, great fun! We do one quick last breathing exercise to centre us, but by the end we are all warmed up and ready for our day!
