One of your better sections of the trip and it shows in your video. Great people in the Mid-West and glad you found some folks to ride with. You have helped inspire me to start a quick figure-8 bikepacking from Boise, ID north. A mostly dirt loop with 50 hot springs and lots of climbing. Training in the Tetons on my mountain bike and hope it is enough!

Once again you're riding part of one of my tours backward (including Jeff City with that crazy bridge and Herman). I know you're now (Sept 25) well into Ohio. Sorry, but the pool table ends for a few days. Your reward is the GAP Trail. (Don't miss the showers at the hotel in Connellsville PA just off the trail. Well worth the $10.) It may be the best 130 miles east of the Rockies. Let's see if you agree. Cheers.

A belated happy birthday Mat! I lived in Missouri for a couple of years when I was much younger, and I think I mentioned earlier that you'd probably find it a little hilly after Nebraska and Iowa. I am very glad that you met some great people down there on your journey through! Really enjoyed your camera work as you were crossing some of the bridges. Whenever I cross suspension or truss bridges on a motorcycle or bike, I always look up for the view as well. And I'm stoked for you that you got to hang out with GDMBR Bill. Cheers!

Texas Hill country was like that. Up, down, up down for miles on end. And it rained every day. Infact a few people we met said thank you to us for bringing the rain after 18 months of drought! Texas was a struggle. You will always have one particular state you will remmber fondly and others not so keen. But everyday brings wonders, joy and serendipity if you are open to experiencing the simple pleasure of cycling. Enjoy!

Thanks! Have another pint on me! As you get further east, it'll probably be a little harder to find really good IPA's in convenience stores. Are you looking for public transportation options to the airport in NYC? If you're planning to use JFK to fly home, look at using the Long Island Railroad (LIRR) from Penn Station (if you are staying in Manhattan). Hop off at Jamaica Station and catch the AirTran to JFK. Good luck!

@@LarryL05 Yep, it sure would be. I wasn't clear on if the bike would be shipped ahead. If not, staying in Queens could be a good option. Places like Long Island City have quick access to JFK if using an Uber/Cab and the bike box. Getting to JFK from Manhattan can bring massive traffic headaches.

Hope you're missing all the rain remnants heading up the East Coast from the various Florida hurricanes this year Mat! I knew you'd enjoy the rail trails once you got farther east on your adventure! I've gone on a couple bikepacking adventures to the local campgrounds at Falls Lake & Jordan Lake here recently and enjoyed the heck out of both! I lived in Minneapolis from 1988 - 1995 & have to say I found people from the midwest to be quite welcoming & wonderful! I'll let you know if I manage to get up to either the GAP rail trail or C&O tow path and / or the Empire State Trail heading east from Buffalo to Albany & then south to NYC in the coming weeks. I've been starting to research potential new wheelsets for my 2022 Kona Sutra. Velocity, Mavic Allroad Disc, & Hunt 4 Seasons Superdura Disc all seem to have excellent potential and the capability of supporting 40 spokes on the rear wheel & 36 up front. Probably be wise to upgrade but I'm honestly trying to balance it with the cost at this point. Either way I'm planning to switch to the Schwalbe Allmotion tubeless tires fairly soon. Wish you safe travels and continued success on your journey Mat!
