The red dot indicates that the transistor is RoHS compliant. The non red dot transistors have a material in them called beryllium oxide, which can be very toxic to humans. The red dots do not have this material in them. RoHS stands for Restriction of Hazardous Substances.

@@ExitThirteen thanks i did a bit of research and found that out! apparently the red dot are not quite so good at handling very high temp! got 4, 2sc2879 red dot finals in mine and all still working fine!

@@andrewknight6853 Just make sure you have plenty of heatsink compound in between the transistors and the heatsink, spread evenly, and you'll be fine! I run my stuff pretty conservative, about 14.2V and 20-25W PEP, and they'll outlive me. LOL
