Hi everyone, join me on a week long trip to Istanbul, Turkey! Everyone was surprised that I chose to vacation in a city in Turkey, instead of its coast, but Istanbul has so much to offer that a week there is not nearly enough to discover all the cultural, culinary and architecture gems. Some of the attractions were closed on reconstruction, so we didn’t see Maiden’s Tower and Basilica Cistern. But from where we’ve been, I highly recommend Topkapi and Dolmabahçe Palaces.
Istanbul covered markets were the highlight of the trip: beautifully decorated, old and renovated, - they were bustling with life and colours.Grand Bazaar is somewhat a mainstream touristy market with a lot of luxury items nock offs and typical Turkish souvenirs - glass mosaic lanterns, silver jewellery and tableware, linen and ceramics.Spice Bazaar was offering not only spices, but also tea, coffee, fruit, Turkish delight, baklava and halva, so, needles to say, it was my favourite 😊
Just like the Greek, the Turkish view street animals as communally-owned pets rather than traditional strays. There’re “cat houses” on the streets with cat food and fresh water for the animals.According to the new law of 2021, pets and stray animals are given "living being" status, so there’s no-kill, no capture policy. The law also mandates the sterilization of all stray animals in Turkey.
Have you ever been to Istanbul? What are your favourite places there?
