You’re definitely 100% one of the most creative people I’ve ever known on the internet and honestly balance really is such a hard thing to find and its always fluctuating too. But thank you for this video!! Watching a Gavin video or joining your livestreams genuinely take me out of any rut. Thank you for sharing everything you do in your week and for all your efforts and care that go into your videos! (ALSO now I’m more than halfway through the video and you’re perfect and beautiful and your voice is great. Period)

I don't understand the rationale behind nasty comments, but since it does get to you, I'll just leave an honest and supportive comment... I don't agree with any of those negative comments. You are extremely charming, witty, charismatic, handsome, well spoken, and you never fail to capture my full attention - which is why I've been subscribing since you lived at home. Any mother would be proud to have you as her son! ❤

It's good to wind down while watching your videos in the evening or to procrastinate doing exam corrections.😂😇 Your videos put a huge smile on my face and your funny bits crack me up. Your voice is relaxing and clear and your talent for making videos is awesome and I admire your creativity. I love my job and it's so great that you can make a living with something you're passionate about. I should add that I love reading as well and whenever I have spare time I pick up my book. Ahhh I love seeing the behind the scenes of being a content creator, it’s so fun to see how other creators work and have a routine or no routine at all. I really related to what you said about how it’s hard to take a break and how you can never really shut off your work brain with a job like this, I 100% agree and I’m also still trying to find the work/life balance! But KZitem is such a fun job and I don’t take it for granted at all! It so nice to have friends who are doing the same thing who can relate 🥹💞

I also relate with the sleeping schedule bit haha, I think that’s the joy of working this job with not necessarily needing to work between 9-5, most of the time I’m up super late editing and working late into the night! @HowToTrainYourGavin Hey Gavin! I'm a graphic designer and often use Adobe products, so I know a ton of shortcuts. Don't stress about your process it's your own and it leads to your amazing videos. I do have a tip for how to make straight lines though that will greatly help. When you are using the eraser tool click where you want the straight line cut to start hold "shift" and click where you want it to end. It should cut a straight line from point A to point B. Hope this helps!

Photoshop tip to copy layer effects to a new layer so you don't have to do them again like you did with the logo layer here: right-click (is that ctrl+click on Mac) the layer with the effects you want and choose "copy layer style", then choose the other layer and "paste layer style". And voilà!

For the last 10 years I worked from 6am-10pm (i work in nursing). I’ve always been a night owl though and even though I got up at 4:30am for 10 years I never ever acclimated to that. I still couldn’t make myself go to bed before 12-1 and was working 16 hours on 3-4 hours of sleep- I was MISERABLE. So about 5 months ago I bit the bullet and changed my schedule to 10am-10pm which means working more days to make up for the hour loss but I can’t believe how much happier I am. If something makes you miserable don’t wait 10 years to change it like I did! Sometimes you feel stuck doing something you’ve always done- that’s how I felt but make the change (this advice is for anyone currently feeling stuck not necessarily Gavin lolol)!

I'm happy this job feeds you intellectually. I hope it stays that way for as long as you want it to keep on going. That being said, I really hope you're also taking care of yourself outside of the job, even though it can feel like it's also a hobby because of the creative side of it. Because even when we love what we do, be it for work or as a hobby, we're not protected against burn out. Having trouble sleeping because your mind keeps focusing on the creative/job part of things is, in my experience, something you want to keep tabs on. Because it can so quickly switch between "i cannot sleep because I'm too exctied for X, Y and Z" to "i cannot sleep and all my emotions are a mess and I'm overwhelmed". My "trick" for sleep (sleep is a BIG part of having a healthy balance of work/leisure/social/self-care), tho it's been a work in progress, is that 1. I've talked about it with my doctor and have light medication for it now, 2. getting a "smart-watch" that logs in my sleep, 3. having a bedtime ritual-ish (it's the HARDEST part, the one I fail at the most, but as no one is growing younger, I need to do better as it affects global health soooooo much). So I hope you find the things that work for you, and cheers to a more conscious effort to finding the sweet spot of that balance :)
