You had me cracking up! I love your low key responses to the alcohol stove curfuffle - hilarious! You were so unfazed by it, and kept using it because you had to. I’m glad nothing major happened with that demon flame! lol Your dialog is always on point Seth, and it was great to see how well your sleep system worked out. Hope you don’t have anything major with your knee going on. I’m not surprised you do acting! Makes perfect sense. If I was closer I would take my family to the show for sure..! Thanks for the video as always!

I had tested the stove twice with great success so the sooty flame was unexpected - but a man needs warm water in the water so I forged ahead! A different alcohol mixture should solve the issue. We had our opening night on Saturday and it was a full house - good to get that first show out of the way!

@@RhodySeth That is so strange about the alcohol not being the same, but I’m glad you handled it well. It inspires me to get outside and test my gear, I have a little pocket rocket stove and never use it. Will the play be recorded at any point?

Great Seeing you out enjoying what Rhode Island has to offer. Nice set up. If I might add, I always use the yellow bottles of “ Heet” for my alcohol stoves. It’s a gasoline additive. Just a suggestion. Love Hammock Gear, I also use those daisy chain suspension straps from Hammock Gear, I find I use those most of the time. Crazy up here in Massachusetts,the winter has been fairly mild as well. Thanks for sharing !

Every time I see your videos I'm like "yeah - I need to go out during winter too". Then I'm opening the balcony door and be like "nah". That cheap alcohol demon stove shouldn't be your main frame of reference :) Try a Trangia stove :)

Great overnighter Seth! I love using alcohol stoves, so quiet and peaceful! I use the Yellow Heet drygas and it works flawlessly. The Red Heet burns orange and sooty kind of like what you had. That looked more like a stove problem though. I had bought one at one time that didn’t perform well. Trangia or Solo Stove are my go to stoves. Evernew and Goshawk make some good burners as well. Perfect choice of quilts, great quality cottage shops! Jeff

Yeah, something was up with the fuel. The stove is your basic fancy feast style and it worked fine with that fuel twice at home. But the morning of my trip, after I filled my fuel bottle, I noticed that the cannister the alcohol came in had condensation on the bottom and appeared to be leaking water (it didn't smell like alcohol). I suspect something happened to the container and frigged up the mixture. I'm going to check out the Yellow Heet everyone seems to use!

@@RhodySeth as you know, alcohol attracts moisture, so I always try to keep bottles sealed until use or top off partial containers that have good seals on them. Same thing goes for my White Gas cans and containers. Water in the fuel probably would have done what you had there.

Looks like a chilly one! Surprised that stove worked in colder temps. Mine I have to let it prime a little before I throw the pot on. I don’t like how unpredictable the alcohol stoves are. Just go straight to cold soaking Seth 😂

Hammock Gear makes some quality stuff. My buddy Taylor has one and the footbox in that thing is so stuffed it stands on end. I should experiment with an alcohol stove someday but I'm just so damn stuck in my lazy ways. 😀

Nice setup. I just got an Outdoor Vitals 0 degree bag instead of the underquilt. I do like bags vs quilts for the cold cold stuff I have figured out. Just easier for me personally to avoid drafts. Man I need to find that spot! I tried based on our conversation and I was not able to. There were cars parked all over and I was not really able to explore. I dont even know if I was in the right area!

@@RhodySeth. Again, Hammock Gear is a great company. In a hammock, you don’t get drafts using an underquilt. Plus if you’ve ever tried getting in and out of a sleeping bag in a hammock, it’s a real pain in the ass. Plus any down under you is compressed and does nothing for you. Peace ✌️

Beautiful sunrise across Yawggog! I have never tried an alcohol stove. I hope you figure it out. In wonder if you compare the weight of the stove and fuel if the alcohol stove is much Lighter than the more typical gas stove.
@RhodySeth

You use more fuel per ounce with the alcohol stove but I believe I read that it takes a certain number of days before it becomes more efficient to use a traditional cannister/liquid gas stove from a backpacking weigh perspective. The alcohol stove itself weights almost nothing so if I can figure out the fuel issue it should work well for shorter trips. I especially like the idea of using in for cold weather trips where other stoves can have issues. More to come!

Definitely a fuel issue - something happened with that denatured alcohol between the two tests I did and this trip. It burned perfectly clean with controlled flames previously. More to come...
