An amazing story and talk by Garrison Keillor - so full of the pains and details of real life - when Garrison is at his best, no one can beat him at his craft!

I am a musician from Macon Ga., a piano player and songwriter. When I was young I always wanted to be a Rock Star. But when I got older it was my goal to be on Prairie Home Companion. So I wrote songs with this in mind as my target audience. I never made it to NPR. But I had a friend from the music business who did. I have so much more respect for her after I heard her singing and playing her own songs, with Garrison Keillor singing back up. It is good to have a dream of success. And it is also good to know someone who lived the dream, even if I didn't quite make it there myself. ❤

My wife and I used to listen to Garrison on NPR, live from the Fitzgerald Theater. It's been years since we've had the pleasure of his radio company. I happened to pull out our current copy of the Rand/McNally tonight to check out some info about New Mexico. For a moment.....I remembered...."look in the fold of the Minnesota map and that's where you'll find Lake Wobegone!" My wife and I spend our summers now in Minnesota enjoying the company of our grandson, daughter-in-law and son. Sometimes, when we're out driving on some quiet, narrow country road, where the trees start to form a canopy, we'll turn the corner and suddenly find ourselves pulling onto a likewise narrow paved road which flows into the open prairie lands and I'll wonder....is Lake Wobegone just up ahead? I keep looking for the Diner, the KittyKat Boutique, the Luthern Church and the Post Office. I know they've got to be there! Somewhere up ahead! I just haven't found the right road yet....so I'll keep looking. In the meantime....I'll reminisce by listening to this collection of Garrison's stories!

Best to try and remember the good times and block out the bad ones BUT don't some good times eventually end up with an ending we regret later on? Live in the present and make what you will of your remaining years.

But the opposite is also true. Things you thought were terrible lead to wonderful outcomes. Plans you had for your life suddenly take a hard turn. Happened several times for me. Each one has led me down a path I could have never imagined. Eventually, the terrible event loses its sting. Only the gratitude for what came afterwards remains.

@@SAVY_JAX I don’t think so. I found it to be a total downer. Maybe not for you, but for me. Had to go listen to Ali Siddiq to cheer me up.

Give it one more shot. Pick a different episode. Do it for me?
