The A1 is the UK's longest road, running from London to Edinburgh, almost 400 miles in length (396 miles / 637km), often known as the Great North Road. Most sections have been converted to motorway or dual carriageway, but there are still some lengths of single-carriageway in Scotland and the far north of England.
The A1 between Edinburgh and Berwick-upon-Tweed is a mixture of single and dual carriageway, with a long continuous dual carriageway running from Dunbar to Edinburgh having been completed in 2004, the former route being reclassified as the A199. There are additionally some single-carriageway bypasses that means the A1 no-longer runs through towns and villages.
This video shows an eastbound journey along the A1, from the A199 junction at Brunstane, Edinburgh, to the Old Craighall junction with the A720 Edinburgh City Bypass, just south of Musselburgh.
