The A1 is the UK's longest road, running from London to Edinburgh, almost 400 miles in length (396 miles / 637km), often known as the Great North Road. Most sections have been converted to motorway or dual carriageway, but there are still some lengths of single-carriageway in Scotland and the far north of England.
The A1 between Edinburgh and Berwick-upon-Tweed is a mixture of single and dual carriageway, with a long continuous dual carriageway running from Dunbar to Edinburgh having been completed in 2004, the former route being reclassified as the A199. There are additionally some single-carriageway bypasses that means the A1 no-longer runs through towns and villages.
This video shows a south-eastbound journey along the A1, from the A1087 junction south of Dunbar, to the junction with the A1107 south of Cockburnspath.
