I know this is a older video but I will comment anyway. I just ordered one of these knives a couple of days ago. I should receive it today and I am very excited. I love the way the blade is longer than the handle. It gives the knife a wicked look.

Great video. Just got this knife. Not as sharp as I want with just stropping. I will give the stone a go, thanks.

Really great explanation on this knife. It has quite interesting geometry, but too thick for my personal liking. Great sharpening also, and indeed i personally find knife has good edge already on lower grits for field use. Maybe i just wouldnt like to shave my face with it cos might be rough shave, but for outdoors use rougher stone is just fine imho. Great video man

It seems to me that you will grind away the convex grind and make it a "V" grind. I have never seen anyone use a stone with the edge leading with a convex grind. It's always spine first (like stropping), and preferably on a mouse pad and sand paper so that you retain the curved design of a convex grind. After you sharpen as you do several times, I would be surprised if you still have a convex edge. Check it out before you ruin your edge. I have been wrong before, but the only way I sharpen my convex blades is with a leather strop. That is all I have needed.

Sure. I opt to keep my fingers. Another way to use it: Bring a couple of nails in your pocket, lay the stone on a fallen tree (stump or what ever) and hammer a nail or two at each end of the stone to keep it in fixed position.

Hey bud! We corresponded on bladeforums at one point about this knife. I finally broke down and bought one. I love the knife, but I bought it to use. I've been using it to split wood and tasks backpacking in the outdoors. That mirror finish gets stained though by sap and other dirt. How can you clean this blade properly so it gets that dirt and sap off there after heavy use? What do you do?

Thanks for the nice video! Do you prefer wet-sharpening or dry sharpening (like you just did with DC4) with A1 Pro? Thanks,
@FearNoSteel

I like the dry method. The water is used to wash off the little metal filings called "swarf" The older DC models had a brown ceramic. The newer models appear to have a new stone, Silcon Carbide? Not sure. I'll make a waterstones video soon. Stay tuned :) Thanks

Just done with sharpening it to mirror polish using Naniwa 400, 1000, 2000, 3000, 5000, 10000, 12000 finishing on leather strop. It took me 2 hours and still I can see no use for this nonsense piece of dull by design garbage after 5 or 6 years. My most regretful knife purchase ever.

sorry to say but you have no natural inclination for sharpening, it not your thing. talking is what your good at, your probably learned your sharpening from a book or Internet post's, right? your ruining the convex edge and giving the knife a "V" edge (not good!) and you're only ever supposed to use the diamond side if the knife has edge damage. please don't fool people into thinking your doing it properly..

And where did YOU learn to Sharpen? How does Dylan Castle sharpen convex knives? Is there a link to your material? Diamonds are off limits? Perfect v edge by hand? Please elaborate Shawn.

+Big Brown well theres natural talent and then that is supplemented by practice and book learning. but despite knowing I'm pretty damn decent at sharpening by hand, i know in nowhere near good enough to try and teach it to people. so i don't do it! i don't know how to sharpen a convex edge, thats what i was trying to learn with your video....

Dylan Castle well what angle DPS do you like your knives at?
@beaucrawford538
8 жыл бұрын
+Big Brown im not completaly sure what your talking about, i do it by hand... but im guesing you mean the angle for the edge, so about 17° for my pocket knifes. for fixed blades i usually keep it at the manufacturers angle.
