Hey! No further qualifications needed for commercial operations. It is all based on the type of flight these days. The only other thing you need is commercial insurance compliant to EC 785/2004. I would recommend Coverdrone who do both a monthly and pay as you go policy. Good luck!

Hi Sean. Another great informative video, but I wonder how videos that are published on social media (Facebook /KZitem) can be identified as Mini 2 footage, and therefore mainly legal, and heavier drones that would be illegal
@Geeksvana
3 жыл бұрын
Hey Ace Pilot! Thanks for the kind words and for taking the time to comment! Interestingly, the CAA and FAA both find it very hard to prosecute or even warn many pilots online. Unless they have proof that the poster is also the flyer and as you say if that the aircraft was illegal in that airspace. In the coming months we will see many more local authorities using tech to track and identify drones. Also, the upcoming electronic ID will help with this.

Thanks excellent video. I have two drones a mini 2 and a Mavic 2 zoom. Can I fly the mini 2 as it is, and then fly the Mavic 2 zoom under article 16? I am a member of FPVUK, or do I have to fly both drones under article 16? I got the mini 2 to fly more local.
@Geeksvana
3 жыл бұрын
Hey Neil, thanks for taking the time to comment and raise a good point. The key factor in what you are able to fly under is the take off point. As long as you fly under the same rules for the entire flight you are fine to switch to the next drone and fly it under just the CAP 722. The only thing you are unable to do is switch during the flight. Hope this helps!

Very useful video thanks Sean, i have one query, the operations manual requirement for the A2CofC when doing commercial work, is this purely a suggestion of best practice or an actual requirement? thanks again 👍🏻
@Geeksvana
3 жыл бұрын
Hey Airtech Images! Thanks for taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it! The ops manual/logging is only advised with the A2 CofC, nothing mandatory at all. Especially if you fly a DJI or similar brand which already logs your flights, allowing you to download them and store once in a while. Hope this helps.

I just got a DJI Mini 2 (haven't even opened it yet!) and this is all very good news - very timely video for me! I don't want to use it to make any money; I'm purely a hobbyist. But it would be nice to be able to fly in more places (safely) and a little bit closer to people - that would open up more opportunities for filming. It seems like a rare moment of common sense for UK regulations to relax previous (unnecessarily strict) restrictions.
@Geeksvana

Thanks, I work in TV as a runner, and want to be able to shoot scenic landscapes, the nice buildings we visit etc. It would be my own drone and insurance, but the footage goes to the show/company. am I right in thinking the A2CofC would be enough for that?
@Geeksvana
3 жыл бұрын
Hey Nicole! Thanks for taking the time to comment. There is no longer any qualification required to fly commercially, so you can use the footage however you desire. In terms of A2 CofC for the kind of flying you describe, that would depend on the type of drone and a few other factors. For instance if you are using something like a DJI Mini 2 or sub 250g drone, there is no qualification needed as required separation is zero. If you want to fly something larger such as a Mavic Air 2, then an A2 CofC would help. Hope this helps. Feel free to email me if you need any more specific info. sean@geeksvana.com. Happy flying!

Hey SparkyCorkers! Thanks for taking the time to comment! I really appreciate it! That is an interesting question. Very interesting. I've been a PfCO holder for about two and a half years now and have a Phantom 4, Mavic Zoom and a new Mini 2. I have hobbyist insurance for "leisure" flights and Commercial Insurance for any commercial work on a daily basis. I know the PfCO will continue to be renewable until 2024, but will I have to do another course (GVC) to replace my PfCO in 2024? In the interim period, am I still able to fly under the same PfCO rules (50 mtr balloon around UAV except for people / bldgs under my control) or will I have to fly under the new rules? Or is it recommended I swap to the GVC now?
@Geeksvana
3 жыл бұрын
Hey Geoff Oldfield! Thanks for taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it! The PfCO is still valid for those renewing but the GVC does offer more opportunity, especially via the bolt on permissions which are possible. Heliguy produced an excellent blogpost on the PfCO and the rules changes which I would recommend reading: www.heliguy.com/blog/2020/12/21/new-uk-drone-laws-can-i-use-my-pfco/ Hope this helps.
