Nothing short of a privilege that I get to learn from a master, for free, late at night posted up on my couch. Technology is amazing - and so are you for taking the time and effort to share your knowledge with the world. This is a dying skill and by uploading it to the internet you’ve made it immortal. I’m grateful for you. I fear I’ll have to rebuild the a750f in my ‘06 taco. It was making a low whine when I put it in reverse, now it makes it when I drive forward as well. Interestingly, the whine is only present while everything is cold. After a few minutes the sound goes away. I have no idea what it is. I believe the impetus for this problem was when I was backing a small but fully loaded trailer up my 45 degree mountain-like driveway. I’ll be interested to know if the sound persists when summer comes. As far as I can tell it hasn’t affected performance, although my MPGs has declined by 10 or 20%. Do you have any idea what could be going on?

Too kind, thank you. Usually, it is the other way around, will whine when it gets hot. But the first thing I would check would be the filter.

Hopefully you can bless me with a reply. I currently have a 2003 Toyota 4runner with the A750E. My vehicle has no codes. Only when I turn right my vehicle goes into limp mode (will not accelerate above 35mph) I cleaned all solenoids and replaced filter and fluid. I have never experienced an issue like this. Do you think it could possibly be a bad seal on a valvebody end cap? Or maybe a bad torque converter???
@CurmudgeonTransmission

I would be looking at the wiring harness. You are just going to have to follow it all the way from the transmission to the computer. If the conduit is missing anywhere or is in bad shape, pay particular attention to that area. Strange that you have no codes.

Would there be any internal damage on a A750F from a alternator failing causing low voltage? Vehicle is a toyota Landcruiser hdj100 Vehicle has reverse but no forward gears but if i unplug ECU harness from transmission it has 1 2 and reverse?
@CurmudgeonTransmission
2 жыл бұрын
Possibly. Depends on how long it was driven like that. Can effect the lfunction of the solenoids. When you unplug it it should be going to 4th gear and not shifting.

Great video! I currently have a 2005 A750 in a Suzuki XL7, 2wd. Just like this trans in the video. It was run low on fluid (3 quarts low, due to leaky cooler line at radiator) to the point the kid would rev the engine to get it to shift up. Since then, it has only had forward gears. Reverse does nothing and it wants to go forward when the shifter is in neutral. Shift linkage is good and correct. This kid doesn't have much money. I've rebuilt some transmissions (Ford C6, 700R4, 4L65E). On this A750, the valve just behind the filter hole is stiff to move either direction with the end of a flat blade screwdriver. It doesn't seem spring loaded to go either way. I suspect it is bound up some way (maybe from slamming one way or the other due to revving up the engine to get the transmission to finally shift) and that's causing it to only have forward, and forward when in neutral. The valve controlled by the shift linkage is moving as it should and freely. Do you think the valve I'm talking about is the culprit, where it would be worth putting in a $250 used valve body?
@CurmudgeonTransmission

Valve bodies are always worn out on these units. Finding a good used one is hit and miss. I think it has probably already caused damage to the unit but you never know. You can always give it a try but let him know the odds and it might not work out.

@@CurmudgeonTransmission What is the mechanism that causes the valve body to wear?
@CurmudgeonTransmission
3 жыл бұрын
@@ericellis4573 The main one is the valve oscillating in the bore constantly. Starting in the 90's manufacturers went to what they call Pulse Width Modulation ( PWM ) on solenoids to give them better control, one of the down sides is massive bore wear. That is why all valve bodies now days are so worn out. To a lesser degree, the materials they use now.

Awesome video! love to see all the insides just to know what all is in there lol Currently have an A750F that suddenly lost 5th gear (its a neutral now), all engine braking in all forward gears, and a random clunk just as it comes to a stop. everything else functions fine. No CEL, still made the 200 mile drive home towing a trailer in 4th gear. Would a valve body issue take out 5th and all engine braking?

All the problems in these units start in the valve body. If you are lucky you might get by with that.

No, it involves more than clearing codes. You usually find it in special functions or tests. There is a reset for the shift adapts. Do that then relearn the shifts. See if it helps.

Hi,I have an aisin transmission in a 2012 mitsubishi shogun/pajero and its throwing up fault code p0970 line pressure low 'solenoid 3'.. there is some traces of copper and a little bit of brass in the sump.any ideas on where or what is causing the low pressure,I have already changed the torque converter with a recon unit.thanks in advance
@CurmudgeonTransmission
3 жыл бұрын
We don't have that model here and trying to look up the code for different models there is no P0970 listed. Having said that the valve bodies have terrible wear issues. you could try a zip kit from Sonnax or a new valve body. As far as the brass it could be the bushing in the planetary I talk about, they are bad about wear and walking out of position.

@CurmudgeonTransmission

You probably have a crack in the main case or the tail housing. You will just have to get under the vehicle and see where it is coming from. Be very careful getting under a running vehicle if it is not up on a lift.

When we removed the driveshaft, on the yoke it had a sleeve bearing on it that maybe the problem? I will replace it and but do those need to be pressed in and they also have a hole are they marked to be lined up on the splines??
@CurmudgeonTransmission
3 жыл бұрын
Yes it is pressed in. If it came out I would say your tail housing is cracked. When they had bushings in them they had to be in a certain way. I am not sure about the bearing ones, have never pulled one out to look at it. Probably going to have to buy the tail housing anyways to get the bearing. Will already be installed.
