Hey Jake, not sure if its just me. But i feel it looks more "natural" if you flipped the video 180 degrees like other how to vids/streams (so it appears as if your hands are coming in from the bottom of the screen). Just my 2 cents worth, doubt it really matters (but just thought i would share)

this should certainly be doable. The current format is a byproduct of how the camera is set up - its screen flipped up to face me so that I can see everything I am recording in real time. The next video I'll ensure to keep all text and logos etc facing me, then will flip the footage 180 degrees in post so as to re-orient the viewer. Thanks for your feedback!

Hah, loved the mention of ADB and Necroware! Two of my favorite repair channels, and Necroware sometimes does repairs on parts that are similar in era to these newer Polaroid cameras. Good old hand drawn traces and leaded solder.

Just caught up with this first video. After seeing all your other videos where the hands come from the bottom of the screen it was a touch awkward. I can see why you changed. After your latest video explaining all the various options to put power onto the SX-70 to use I type film etc - what about a flash modification video. Comparing results of different methods and showing the modifications necessary - wiring etc ( Don’t electrocute yourself !! ) For box and SX-70 camera’s - 1. Adjusting the Polaroid accessory flash by lowering the flash brightness to allow them to be used with 600 /I type film. 2. How to put ND filter material on top of the flash / or inside the flash unit itself for better look etc. 3. Alternative flash units - Mint Flash Bar 2 - full and half power settings. 4. Original 10 shot flash bulbs - can they be covered up with a ND material stuck over them ? If not are they now to bright when using higher speed films ?

Not a bad idea I have done a video showing how to mod a Onestep sx-70 flash I want to do one showing a Polatronic flash though Most of the videos I do are on client cameras, so priority is clients sending me interesting stuff

Thank you for sharing the repair process / modification It's cool to watching you burning your desk with the solder :D
@theinstantcameraguy

the wood is actually a panel on TOP of the desk. It's there to be expendable. So I can drill into it, scuff it etc without worrying It's a perfect surface to solder on, since solder does not stick to wood

I guess one could also put a filter over the lens instead of using that one over the film pack, or the film pack cutout over the lens?
@theinstantcameraguy
8 ай бұрын
this is 100% correct. Another way to compensate for the 640ISO film would be to use filtration. However, doing so would leave you stuck with slow shutter speeds. Doing the electronic conversion speeds up the shutter, making it far more useable in low light.

To make the flash 1/4 power you can replace the main high voltage electrolytic with one 1/4th the value. That'll give the xenon tube a lot less power

I do have a question. I'm having a hard time finding a 50pf capacitor online. I'm seeing 47pf and a 56pf. Which one did you use exactly? Does a variance of +-4pf matter?
@theinstantcameraguy
8 ай бұрын
I used 47pf in this conversion. But honestly those two capacitors are so similar in value it would have a negligible difference. You will likely still have to tweak the electric eye gears to get exposure 100% correct

Do you think it would be possible to mod one of these OneStep cameras to switch between SX70 and 600?
@theinstantcameraguy
6 ай бұрын
That would be possible for sure if you find a place for the switch But why you'd ever want to go back to SX-70 film is beyond me 600 is far more versatile in these cameras
@googleuser3163

@@theinstantcameraguy I suppose it would be useful for times when I have more boxes of SX70 around than 600, granted that's not often but it would be nice to have a OneStep that can shoot all three types of film!
@theinstantcameraguy

@@googleuser3163 in Australia is pretty hard to find SX-70 film, so I rarely ever bother with it. The fact that 600 film gives you stuff a wider variety of shooting environments is the cherry on top It would certainly be possible though. Figuring out WHERE to put the switch would be the next question... Many options to choose from.

@@theinstantcameraguy I've heard that SX70 can be hard to come by in many regions, for some reason in my part of Europe it's about as plentiful as 600. I may send my OneStep to you to have a switch installed sometime!

You can't not show us how to modify the flash after saying that no one documents how to take them apart... 😁
@theinstantcameraguy

perhaps a future video is in order! Taking apart a flash does have the additional danger however of the 300V capacitor inside, which CAN give you a nasty shock Although unlikely to be lethal, it certainly hurts if you accidentally get zapped!
