I have a question: I plan to take that course but I wonder if it is better in person/school or online?

Hi! I'm interested in this course, and was wondering if it helped you get work in the industry or if you found it a worthwhile investment?

Hi Nicholas, yes, I was very lucky and was able to get a job at Aardman this year. I moved to England in March m and have been working as an assistant animator on Chicken Run 2 for 7 months now. :) I applied for a 2-months-traineeship at Aardman a couple of months after the SM1 course and was lucky enough to get it, which led me to getting a job offer afterwards. However, doing the course does not mean that you’re going to get a job at Aardman. Only 4 people of aaaaall the students (which are hundreds by now) were able to get a job. So don’t go in the course expecting to get hired. Don’t want to be mean, just trying to not give you any false hope. I don’t know which country you’re from but if you’re not in the UK and you don’t have the right to work here, you can’t do the traineeship which sometimes leads to a job. But besides all that, I think the course is a great way to work on your skills, get to meet a bunch of wonderful people, learn from the best in the industry and be part of a super lovely community with fellow animation nerds. I really loved it and had a great time. :) I’m still in touch with many students of the course and we have become friends. If you can afford it and are looking to improve your skills, I’d definitely recommend doing it. :)

After completing the course, do we have to return kit or dragonframe box thing?
@Maraike

No, you get to keep everything you've been sent including the armature, rig, dragonframe software and bluetooth controller for it. :)

Hi! I am really interested in the course and I was wondering, was it hard to get in? What kind of portfolio did you show?
@Maraike

Hi :) No, it's not hard to get in and you don't really need much experience in animation. There were also people on the course who have never really animated before. If you've never done any stop motion whatsoever, Aardman will ask you to go have a try first. Just so you can get a feeling of what stop motion animation is and how the basics work. You don't have to do anything special. Taking a piece of clay or whatever item you have lying around and animate it. It doesn't have to be perfect. They just want to make sure that you know what you're in for and are aware of what exactly you're spending your money on. ;) I have applied with a stop motion short film I've made and some 2D animation projects. Did that help in any way? Feel free to ask whatever you want to know. :)

Thank you! :) Oh cool! Looking forward to seeing your vlog. Yes, it's my absolute favorite film! When you mentioned in the first live lecture that it's your favorite as well I wanted to yell "SAAAAAME!" haha

@@Maraike No problem; and it's my favourite film too, but, of course, you have clearly gathered that from the first live lecture - and had you have yelled "SAAAAAME!" it would have been brilliant! 😅
