You never played high school or college football? Training camp sucks ass. Away from family and friends for weeks just to practice twice a day. Back in my day we practiced 3 times a day for two weeks straight. I hated it.

No, Iverson was making a different point. He was beaten up and injured, and he was skipping practice to recover more between games. But that was spun into him being a prima donna black athlete who was too lazy and undisciplined to practice. In fact, Iverson was a warrior (in athlete terms), who played hard - going to the basket against much bigger players, getting knocked on the floor, getting banged up and injured, but still kept going to the basket during games.

D1!!...I'm 61! I played in this football league, 14-17yrs old...in the late 70s, early 80s. The field was horrendous! Dusty, dry, hard as a brick in the summer!! 90 plus degrees, practicing for 4 plus hrs!! Them coaches were tripping!! All of them from the south!! But I loved it!! It made me an evil! Mean son-of-bitch during the season!! Also disciplined, confident, with no fear!! But I get it, especially for veterans... even in D1. After a couple of summers...it can grind you.

Have one team do a one month camp and another go into the season without camp. See which one wins. Even with guys like Donald who don’t really ”need” it, all of the offensive linemen who get reps against him are better for it. All of the teammates on the defense are better for it for being on the same page.

Idk: it's way easier to maintain than it is to build. Aaron was the same weight when he entered the league as when he left, and for technique, he was a first round pick and made the Pro Bowl his rookie year, so I doubt he had much of a learning curve to climb.

Yeah those camps be brutal from 8am to like 8pm i hated them hell weeks especially the days we be banging all day Oklahoma/mat drills remember coach work us so hard one day i got huge blister on bottom of my foot by end of practice i peel like a layer of dead skin under my foot it was so painful to walk i barely finish practice.

See my sons LOVE camp! He loves the drills and practice! Granted hes just now going to college, but all thru high school, he has always enjoyed the grind. Plus, we train all year around cause he wrestled all thru high school as well.

I know its long but these players have ONE 2.5-3 hour practice, film and maybe a 1 hr walk through in the door facility. I played back when u had 2 two hour practices in the heat with film till 7-8p. Those were long hard ass days.

I feel like it comes down to work ethic, and camp is in place because a majority of players don't have the discipline or dedication to have themselves ready for the season... But guys like AD put in crazy work during the off season and in his spare time... So for guys who can actually hold themselves accountable and put in the work, I can see how they can view camp like this... But for most guys, If they didn't go to camp, they wouldn't be ready.
