at 4:07 all that stuff he is talking about with the meter of the music just goes to show how much this guys FEELS music and the beat. i'm not clear on if he knows why those guys with the "mind-blowing chops" like Gavin Harrison and Portnoy change the meter so often. they never "miss" or "overlook" beat 1, they just change where beat 1 comes up because they FEEL music differently. His views and people like Gavin Harrison's views are the reason i love drumming so much. its an awesome world.

Thomas Pridgen, my favorite drummer, has the same issue that Aaron is talking about here. He rolls a sick chop for like a few measure, but when he finishes he has issues keeping up with the bar line and hitting the "1" beat right on time.

It's REMO (Remo Thomas Lang Practice Kits). You can look the DW too (Dw practice drum - go anywhere). I think with the REMO you can add or remove layers from the pads to change the amount of rebound. Both REMO and DW seem great.

@palunga09 Why do people who are into good drummers keep hating on Joey Jordison? I agree that there are better drummers, and with hindsight it can be quite funny to remember how awestruck we were by him, but he still does really know his way around his rudiments, his timing and use of syncopations/offbeats is impeccable (he doesn't use syncopations a whole lot, but he does use them) and his beats fit perfectly with the music he plays. There's more to him than speed, contrary to popular belief.

True. It's not a great explanation if you don't know what he means beforehand, but basically he means is; develop TIME and POCKET first, then once that's all solid and consistent no matter WHAT, worry about the head-exploding chops. After all else is developed, THEN practice the crazy cops staring from all points within 1-&-2-&-3-&-4-& and make sure no matter what it is, the idea clearly concludes on 1, or wherever else is going to be premeditated by the band. Time and feel gets gigs, not chops.
