Marquis Iloinen I doubt you got a bad one - i think it just wasn’t the right sound for you. I agree with you, I had one and it wasn’t for me so I sold it. But it’s a perfect cymbal for JoJo Meyer and my point here is that Sabian are masterful to be able to manufacture such unique cymbals that meet the specifications of their artists. Making a cymbal with that much stick definition and crashability is a phenomenally difficult task

Do it LanceCampeau. I use the 18 and 21 inch models and love them both. They are probably the most complex cymbals I have ever played. They both have at least five distinct playing areas on them. My favorite is the tight with some nice wash area where the lathed and raw sections meet. I just got back from the factory in New Brunswick (much love to Tim D.) to find a crash to complement these two exquisite instruments which I’ve built my sound around. Can’t say enough about the OMNI’s or Sabian in general. Literally the best cymbals out there, hands down.

Somewhen between 2012 and 2013, I asked Jojo on a drum clinic if he wasn't missing the smoke, the darkness in his new cymbals (compared to the fierce stuff). He said there was plenty of smoke in the Omnis (I disagreed, but okay) and if he had an appetite for white chocolate, that means that he didn't have as much appetite for dark chocolate in that moment. Well, I guess it's dark chocolate again, huh? ^^

Both are great. But for me, HHX are perfect. The variety is perfect and even though they are they dark, models cut, the brilliant finishes cut and sound pleasant to the ears. They are not deafening or glass shattering. They sound musical and dynamic. I like my AAX stage crash since it cuts but has a nice full body sound, and its nice to ride on. But the HHX models all sound great. Darker cymbals just sound better for all styles of music. Where as brilliant and traditional machines lathed cymbals are extremely basic and limited in their versatility.

Sabian and Mark Love put in a lot of time developing this cymbal that really does not come into play with a lot of musics styles. I’ve owned this cymbal and it was great but you don’t see it out much with other artist or gigging drummers. Just my thoughts and opinion.
@bbfoto7248

+Chad Ford The OMNI's are like any other cymbal...there are sometimes wide variations between the same model & size depending on its weight, lathe'ing, hammering, etc. You can't make a judgment based off of playing just the first one you pick off the shelf. I have the 18" AAX OMNI, the 19" HHX OMNI, and the 22" HHX OMNI. I had to try at least 3, and up to 7 (for the 22" OMNI) before I found the "magic" one for each of these! Again, just like buying any other cymbal, you are probably not going to get "the one" if you just pick the first one off of the shelf or buy one blindly Online. Out of the 3 OMNI cymbals that I have, the least expensive 18" AAX OMNI is my favorite and most used. But even then, I've added a small strip of gaffer tape to the underside of the cymbal to make it a bit darker and slightly less washy. This particular cymbal exhibits the best of both worlds (great Ride AND Crash sound) compared to any other one that I have. It would be the one I would choose first if I could only take one cymbal on a gig or session. I also have the original 21" HHX Jojo Sig Fierce Ride, and it would probably be my second choice for a "one cymbal" setup. The one I ended up with is very versatile. But my sister randomly bought me a relatively inexpensive 18" Dream Bliss Vintage Crash/Ride because she happened to hear it in a music shop while someone else was demo'ing it, and she said to me, "I just really liked the way it sounded and thought I should get it for you", haha! She picked a winner! It's one of my favorite cymbals now. Thanks sis! :) I also have to say that the Drumsticks you use can make a HUGE difference in the sound of the cymbal. The type of wood, its weight & density, and the type or profile of the tip can completely change the sound you get. For instance, I could record the 18" AAX OMNI with two different sticks and you'd think I had switched the 18" out for a 20" or 21". Using different sticks mostly affects the overall pitch (higher or lower), but also the stick definition and attack. Over the years I've collected a sh!t ton of cymbals, from all different makers, both vintage and modern. IMO, the Sabian OMNI line does the "Crash/Ride" thing better than most others. But there's no perfect, all-around cymbal... it's all about choosing the right cymbal(s) to suit the specific gig, track, or song. It's a deep, dark, expensive rabbit hole, haha.
@SockerConny80

I think it's a matter of people not giving it a serious go. I got one soon as it came out as an hhx and i still use it alot. It truly is what it was made for a single cymbal to cover a spectrum of sounds and you can use it for any music style. Personally i find it a perfect cymbal for touring since it's durable and works as both ride and crash. You only need this cymbal and a hi-hat and you can play anything that isn't too extreme.
@RobDdrummer

@@bbfoto7248 I totally agree! I used the Omni in different set-ups and music styles and they work perfectly. Also, I bought a Dream contact 14" hi-hat and I fell in love. The Dream cymbals are something else. Your sister has some good set of ears! 😉

Yes, but I think he's already been there quite a while now. :P Honestly, when Jojo switched between the AAX & HHX OMNI cymbals in this demo with Mark standing beside him, the new HHX didn't sound any "Darker" to my ears...it was basically just a different pitch, but very similar otherwise. So "bright" must be Jojo's new "dark" haha. JK, but I'm not sure that in this instance the premium price of the HHX is worth the difference over the AAX.

I love and hate Sabian. I love the sounds like the XSR Monarch ride and HHX series is my favorite but I hate that I have to go through many cymbals to find ones that sounds good. No two cymbals sound similar or close, too much variation in sound. HHX is my favorite but I can pick five 18" crashes or 22" rides and get five different sounds from bright to dark, wet or dry. I wish you guys tighten that up. Same with even the AA or B8 Pro. I know no two cymbals will be exact but they should be close. I loved a XSR 22" ride in store, went back to get it the next week it was sold but they had two new ones. I tried them and absolutely hated them. They was horrible, one sounded like a garbage can and the other bright dry. Please fix this Sabian.

Most of you kids go out and get a practice pad and a metronome and get a list of rudiments. Try learning this before spending money you don't have to start with. I see kids come in music stores and waist time beating on expensive drums. They have no idea about time and rundimental concepts! Just making noise. Not buying anything because they couldn't afford a pair of sticks. Beating on a drum does not make you a drummer. You don't build a house without a foundation. And you don't become a drummer just because you are beating the hell out of something and destroying it! Get a rundimental book and a pad, that's all you need!

Kids should do whatever inspires them the most on the drums. You sound like an arrogant snob who thinks his way is the "right" way. There is absolutely nothing wrong with starting on a drum set and learning beats right away. You sound like one of those backwards people who tell kids they need to start on an acoustic guitar before playing electric. Nonsense. Complete nonsense.

Don't underestimate the value of having an instrument that's fun to play, especially for beginners. There's not much inspiring about a drum pad, but a drum kit? Hell yeah. I've always been motivated to play, but as I progressed over 30 years, I found that as I got better equipment, playing just got so much more fun. Nice instruments make you want to play them. They have their own gravity, their own magic. Even more than hearing it, you can feel it, and it's inspiring. And inspiration makes a musician.
