I love your video!! I think for intraverbal, the important part is to remember that it's used for items or situations not currently happening. For example, if the provider is pointing to the trampoline and saying "you jump on the _____" that would not qualify as an intraverbal. This is the part that I missed out and only recently figured out, so I hope this will help someone else! This is important because caregivers want to be able to say, "What happened at school today?" and receive a response.

ABA makes me sick! You are treating CHILDREN like animals! In fact, there are many people that say they wouldn’t even treat animals this way when they are training a dog. The way you use the word train is disgusting. Is this how you would like to be treated? When you’re learning something be threatened with things like “if you don’t get this right your not going for your lunch break”, for example. It makes no difference if you are an adult either. It is abuse, you are psychologically abusing your children. I am Autistic and all this does is make your children mentally ill as adults, they actually end up worse off. Why can’t people just accept their difference and get to know them and how and why they do something. Why don’t us Autistics start training you Neurotypicals on how to be more Autistic because we want things done our way. Also, you don’t need to patronise your children either. This is not intelligent in the slightest. In fact, it tells me that a lot of you lack emotional intelligence and awareness. It’s like “training” an individual who is totally paralysed for life, to walk. When they don’t manage to walk passed a certain point, you grab them and force them your way. Then what do you do? You wonder why they are crying and in so much pain. Maybe they even get a bit violent. This is a normal human response, it has nothing to do with challenging behaviour and everything to do with dehumanising people because of their neurotype. When they behave like this it is because they realise that you still haven’t got the message and it is their way of saying “get off”, which I’m quite sure that if any of you here were being man handled, would also do. Adults who went through this as children end up with PTSD as adults and a lot of personality issues.
@IcanSeeMyselfOutThanks

There is no coercion, and no punishment in most ABA protocols. You can simply shape behavior through differential reinforcement. Also, you are misinformed. There's no legit, scientific articles linking ABA to PTSD

had this as a child, it made me feel like i was brainwashed into having the voice of whoever was speaking to me. never got to develop it myself. ABA is abuse, even this. let people speak their own way. autistic people are constantly expected to fit in with neurotypicals, why isn't it the other way around. i was so confused as a kid why no one else wanted to talk about their favorite game to me for 5 mins straight.
@plantspit518
3 жыл бұрын
I understand where you are coming from but, if someone is unable to communicate, would that not be difficult and bring its own sets of problems? I don’t think this is necessarily expecting children to speak as neurotypical people do but help them to communicate their needs and help with behaviors that might be harmful like self hitting. Please educate me if I’m wrong.
@IcanSeeMyselfOutThanks

What you fail to realize is that the autism spectrum is just that....a spectrum. All this hate for ABA is uncalled for, and fueled by misinformation. The only thing I ever see is "let the kid stim". Guess what? ABA agrees. If the self-stim (we all have forms of self-stimming) is not harmful to the individual, their learning, the safety of others, or their environment, an ethical ABA practitioner will NOT address the behavior. It's stated very specifically in the BACB code of ethics. Now, let's talk about the other side of the spectrum. A non-vocal 16-year old male on the autism spectrum continues to gouge his eyes and slam his head through walls. He does not functionally communicate and does not eat anything besides cookies and french fries. He will often aggress towards others as well. We should just let those behaviors be according to your theory, right?
@leaaugusta9924

It really is described as helping kids get along with society better and the phrase I find particularly cringeworthy is "reducing challenging behaviors". How about therapizing parents to understand their kids and deal with behaviors they find irksome instead of forcing kids to conform?
