As weird as it may seem, I am and live in the Caribbean (Puerto Rico) & I became a fan of the Detroit Red Wings as a little kid, when I was like 9, the reason is because I used to see them a lot in the playoffs, so I stared to like & root for them and chose them as my team, and also because I had the N64 game Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey and I used to pick them with Fedorov and Kozlov. I still can't believe as a kid in the Caribbean I was so passionate about the NHL & DET. I used to tune in to ESPN or ESPN NEWS just to see the scores and results, and when Detroit lost, I'd be so sad for the day. I also watched the games whenever they were on tv. In playoff time I always got nervous. Didn't want to see DET lose or get eliminated. The good ol' days :') Sad to see the arena that was part of my childhood gone. The good days are gone. Now we are in a different conference and we don't even make the playoffs... The red sky looked amazing! Beautiful. Maybe a tribute from nature to the Red Wings arena that we all enjoyed so much.

Joe Louis was not a modern arena. It was far behind many, many arenas. All the bathrooms were up a level so there were lines coming down stairs. The concourse was very narrow so lines from the concessions stretched across the whole walk way. So you had to walk through lines just to get around. I've been to the arena once (not a Wings fan) and honestly other than the history, which it was alright and neat, the arena sucked.

Thank you so much for this!!! The last truss has just come down. I attended the last game and I will really miss this place. This place was all about hockey, not about overpriced food or fancy things. It had character.

I could tell immediately that was Mike Ilitch’s owners suite, he had the huge windows to separate his from the open arena. This arena is where legacies were made, bittersweet to see it demolished.

So sad to see the Joe go... it had more character than perhaps any pro sports venue in North America. I know it had its issues, but when you watch some of these UE vids of the place, replacing it doesn’t seem justified.

Thanks a lot for this video as a red wings fan who grew up going to the Joe to watch hockey games this place holds a lot of memories for me and I miss this arena very much because of all the history there the brawl between the avalanche and the red wings in 97, the sweep of 97 and much much more so thank you for keeping the memory

@@AironNoriaLong It had seen its time, though it was a great arena, it had its ups and downs, with it not being central to the other arenas around the area i.e Ford field and comerica park, it wasn't in a good location. The wings moved to the Little Caesars arena, and the Joe was forgotten. I wish they couldve preserved it, but I feel with the amount of problems, it was better to get rid of it. They are demolishing the Palace of Auburn hills as well, where the pistons used to play, now that I dont understand, not even 20 years old.
