Those abandoned boxcars will never be used again. FRA regulations say that all railroad cars are limited to a 50 year service span. These boxcars look like they were built sometime in the 50's or 60's. If you look at the trucks on the boxcars, you'll see that they're equipped with journal bearings. Journal bearings are considered obsolete and are illegal for class 1 railroad service. Roller bearings are the standard for all railroad cars these days. These boxcars will continue to be left abandoned and forgotten until they rust away or scrapped.

These are 50’ cushioned Boxcars from the 60’s or 70’s. In the 50’s there were using the 1948 Pullman 40’ boxcars mostly.

Unless you can get them with new trucks with rollerbearings which would cost more than a new boxcar today
