Kyle McGran I love your videos. The places you visit are cool. But, Dude. The music. I don't mind music. But that..... Maybe it wouldn't bother me (and I can't be the only one,) if it wasn't so loud. Constructive criticism. Thank you for showing such cool places :)

Those two small doors that opened to the outside balcony on the second floor; you didn't crawl out through them, you put the bottom window the whole way up, opened the doors at the floor and walked out. The third floor was likely servants quarters like for the black guy that worked there years ago. That bell you found had part of a string on it. That string would have run down to the first floor and to summon the servant on the third floor you pulled the string, ran the bell and the servant should come downstairs to see what you want! Neat old building, glad they are going to restore it! One of the best things about this mansion is that it wasn't covered in graffiti and didn't have walls and woodwork destroyed by idiots with no appreciation for the past and the quality of workmanship that went into old homes, unlike the homes of today!

The top floor was sometimes for the servants & abt the only time they were up there was to sleep so they didn't need a lot of walking around space. You'd probably like the documentary, abt Victorian manisons, Servants under the stairs..or something to that effect.

In these older homes like this frequently the upper floor was occupied by the house servants and the springy bell is actually a call bell for the servants. The balcony window goes up and open little door and you can just walk out. Thank you for exploring this place, it was awesome.

Kyle, I just saw your video and immediately subscribed. This video is professional quality. Who ever is behind the camera knows exactly what they're doing. I also very much appreciate the length of time you leave the written information up for your viewers to read. Many other explorers videos don't give the viewer enough time to read and you continually have to pause the video. Even with the poor lighting I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this video. Also, you have the controlled voice of a radio announcer. You don't allow yourself to fade in and out like so many do. Definitely professional quality. Thanks very much.

Awesome! In most mansions, first floor was to receive people, second floor was bedrooms and That bell is a servants bell - so most likely the servants lived on that floor (hence why the rooms are so small). This was great! Loved that fireplaces!

Hi Kyle. Loved your video. What a sensational old manion. Each time I see old buildings I have to wonder why it was abandoned. I'm a kiwi living in AUstralia and as much as I enjoy venturing into old buildings, I never see things like this here because our history is so young....less than 300 years old, so we don't have old mansions like this here. Just recently a lass from the US put some px on FB about an old abandoned cottage she'd been to. The setting was gorgeous and so I messaged her and we formed a chat, whereby she said she knew the owners. I asked if she could maybe buy it for a song and reno it...she hadn't even thought of that...so now she is off to make some enquiries to see if she can do just that. Another place I have formed a fascination for was an entire town which was brand new but abandoned in BC Canada, named Kitsault. What an extraordinary place. I hope you get there one day because its awesome...plenty of videos on YT about it too. How many old places do you get to see?

My house was built in 1913, it had bells that rang in the servants rooms, bell pulls on the main floors and master bedrooms & the ceilings were very short on the top floor with built in dressers and closets., But now where near as big or grand as this house. I hope it is fully restored, would be spectacular.Yes the main kitchen was very small, ridiculously so.

A servant's bell 10:00 ... the casements on the arch and the windows are so beautiful, in fact, the entire home is so precious. The closets are small as few garments were needed: one for everyday use, one for church, and one for mourning. I would have liked to have seen the width of the baseboards and more of the architectural features of the home.

Kyle, found this video quite intriguing. Even without furnishings the architectural features are very lovely. It's wonderful that the house is being restored. You indicate that you're going to continue with your explorations & upgrade your equipment. I'll look for your newer works. One thing, you need to study up on your subject. For instance: the entrance to the balcony, one does not crawl through those little doors - you open both them and the window above and walk out. On the 3rd floor the bell you saw hanging was not a fire alarm nor was the large room with fireplace the master bedroom. The rooms on this floor would have been servants quarters, the bell to call them when needed & the large room was, in all probabilty a work room used primarily for ironing (the fire place being used for to heat the sad irons) and clothing & linen storage & repair. Tho put there for those functions the fireplace would have made these rooms more comfortable in winter than most servants rooms (BUT they would have been Hell itself in summer).

Kyle, your videos are well done, and I love the hIstory you provide. The octagon shape in the middle was popular in that time period -- some houses were only octagon without wings, but most of them had wings off varying sides. Oh! I just the newspaper article you posted that talked about the octagon shape! Gorgeous inlaid floors! I think to get to the balcony, you can also raise the lower sash of the window and open the doors below. The servants lived the third floor, so they didn't care if the ceilings were low. The bell on the wall was used to summon the servants upstairs. What an elegant structure!

The metal door on the outside was for the Coal Shoot, for the Boiler and possibly the Fireplaces. Glass door shelves was probably the Library or Dinning room! On the Second floor its a Window Door you have too open the window sash then the doors too get out!!!

The servants usually lived on the top floor.. the owner’s suite would be big and elaborate. The bell on the wall on third floor was probably a wake up alarm bell. The head servant would be in charge of getting everyone up and going early early in the morning.

I think the unit in the basement is actually a freezer rather than a refrigerator. The bell is a servant's bell. It would have a pull in another room, more than likely the master bedroom and it would be pulled when a servant was wanted. The third floor would be the servant's quarters.

This is a great mansion - though I was (like you!) hoping there was a bunch of stuff left in it! Many have mentioned that the top floor was probably the servants' quarters, which is probably correct. My first thought, though, was that it was probably an attic at one point and then was converted into bedrooms/servants' quarters. That could explain why the ceilings are so weird and slanted. Nice video, too. Yours are always so professional and well done, and you explain a lot of things along the way. Love the attention to details like the spires on the bottom of the staircase and the door fixtures. It must've really been a masterpiece when it was in use!

Top floor was for the servants the bell was to call them. Usually the upstairs maid/nanny if only one room. A butler and cook room might be in the Basement if they lived in!!!! Often Kitchens were in the Basement and food brought up stairs by servants or Dumbwaiter. Kitchen Appliances look to be about 1970's so kitchen in basement also might here be a conversion to a Basement Apartment! But kitchens in the 1840's were often in Basements or off to the back of houses!!!

I did like the video, Kyle. You do a good job of holding the camera on architectural details so that viewers get a chance to take a good look. I know you were disappointed that there were no furnishings left in the house, but may I point out that you wouldn't have known if they were original to the house or had belonged to Mr. Stanley. Also, the reason the top floor had low, pitched ceilings was because they were most likely servants' quarters. That was also the purpose of the bell on the wall. I love these old houses and I appreciate getting to 'visit' them this way. If you want to learn more about old houses, let me know. It would be fun to share what I know.

Enjoyed the video, I actually prefer seeing the empty houses, as the vandals/squatters seem to manage to trash the places where anything is left behind. I don't know if the mantels were ornate or anything, but maybe you could focus more on the architectural details in the empty houses in the future? I always like to look at stuff like that, wallpaper, curtains, floor coverings, plasterwork, statuary, etc. Thanks for posting!

When this house was built in the 1800's, the third floor was likely servants quarters, and the bell that you found in the hallway of that floor was a bell for the servant, when the master of the house needed their valet or maid in the morning or evening, they would ring the bell by pulling on a pulley of some kind. The second floor would have been built to house all of the family.
