The Auckland Regional Council announced in 2007 that Western Line rail services would be extended to Helensville for a one-year trial period commencing in July 2008.
This service would commence from Waitakere, and include one stop at Huapai/Kumeu and one at Waimauku. A new station platform was built at Huapai/Kumeu with lighting, fencing and no station building, and a platform built at Waimauku with lighting, fencing, and a small station enclosure which is now destroyed and in a poor state of repair.
The trial service commenced on 14 July 2008.
The service ceased in 2009, and the platforms are currently unused and in a poor state of repair.
Helensville station has become a historic building and is featured in its own video linked above.
