I have a friend that goes up to Beaverton every year, he said it's been raining since he got there. That power plant was cool. Think it'd make a good amusement park. Yea! They could fit the cooling towers with ramps that start at the top and circle around and around all the way to the bottom. For the ones that chicken out you could have an emergency exit ramp! Yee-Haa!! What a spin on life that would be. Bet you could make that 24 billion back in no time. That old house i just love. To bad i didn't see any for sale sighs. Had my pen ready tho. so the dome was originally to be used for radioactive waste and transportation of the waste basically it was gonna be drums of clothing or gloves or random things that become radioactive low level waste, it would not sit for long before being shipped to Hanford or another location for disposal. the whole site use to have razor wire fencing around the entire complex with two security gates that are no longer present. I was selected of a tour of 100 people mostly kids me and 4 others were given the chance to stand inside the not yet started reactor, though it was never started it was ready to go. we went through the containment doors when they were both still there lol

Kamping Karma weather story: Left Strathcona Park on Vancouver Island two days early in late fall when the Weather Gods decided we'd had enough and rained us out. Lights of the truck were damn dim on the way home. Truck barely started to get us off the ferry. Dead as a door nail the next morning. Dead alternator. If we had stayed the extra two days in Strathcona it would have been a VERY long walk to the closest help (no cell service). So, thanks for the rain, Weather Gods.

3 things u can try regarding over heating on your alternator.1-get an offroad alternator.The good ones have heavier diodes and double up the regulator 2-get some sheet aluminum and make a heat shield for under the alternator 3 run some kind of flex piping from the front near a fresh air source not behind the rad but rather off to the side were you have access to cold air coming thru as u motor along.Also make sure it is grounded well the alternator...pipe dont matter.Great channel

The power plant was a private construction that was not authorized by the government for use. Their idea was the government would have to give them a permit once it was built. They went over budget and then ask the government for money. The government said we're never going to let you use it, why would we going to give you money. Nuclear material was never brought to the site and the turbine was eventually removed and relocated to a power plant in Centralia WA. Long long ago I got to proper tour the place. Slamming a car door in the unfinished cooling tower sounds like a shotgun going off. The echo is crazy.

Omg Noooo!!!! You should've picked me up on the way lol! You were at the old U.S. Coast Guard boat house pier. 😭. I've crabbed Garibaldi so many times over the years, it's my favorite spot! I'm in West Hillsboro. There's a public pier right across by the fish cannery or whatever down by the Garibaldi Marina. It's one of the best spots for crabbing but I do love the old pier you crabbed, especially when it's as stormy winter day 🥶. If there's been a lot of rain recently the freshwater dumps into Tillamook bay and reduced the salinity pushing the crabs further out into the bay or ocean. The Jetty Fishery just North of Garibaldi always seems to have crab and boat rentals, they had a sign out front that said "Sleep with us & catch crabs!" 😂. I had always wondered about the old nuclear power plant up in Washington but boy oh boy was I surprised when you went to my favorite crabbing spot. 😊. Thanks for the video Dustin. Safe travels!

The site was abandoned for 15 years, 1984 to 1999. NASA is not a tenant of the park. The windows are blocked by the tenants that rent that space. The weird round thing, as you called it, was a top to the round containment building that sits behind it. The compass painted on top of the lid is said to be correct. Had you stopped for a visit during working hours some of the workers could have answered most of the questions you had. The large machine you saw, is a tunnel boring machine which is used for training by the Laborers Training Trust. The large tunnel you saw under the tower is used for tunnel training by emergency responders, who also use the towers for high-angle rescues. Military use the park for training as has DARPA. Very cool drone footage.
@scuddrunner1
15 күн бұрын
That lid is from the #5 containment vessel. The lid for #3 was destroyed when the Chicago Bridge and Crane bolted to the #3 vessel collapsed and destroyed a lot of the building in May of 1980. We as workers weren't supposed to talk about it. L&I never knew about it but then again the contractors were self insured.

It was never completed as on March 22, 1983, they ran out of money about halfway through. It was quite the adventure until the place was surrounded by county sheriffs… Apparently we parked in a sketchy spot and they didn’t quite like it. Needless to say it was my very first abandoned exploration and it forever captivated my love for exploring! Keep up the awesome videos!!!

Our tour guide was a super smart guy that was part of the team that was in the process of writing the start up procedure for the reactor when the project shut down. Dustin: Great choice nuc power plant, agreed there is just something apocalyptic about these places especially when they are unused or abandoned. The piece of equipment you spied near the end of plant tour is what we refer to as a TBM or Tunnel Boring Machine. It's definitely new suspect its being storing there cus there's lots of space. Once fully assembled they are as long as a hockey rink. They will use two of these to complete the tunnels for the subway extension project in Vancouver. The Mexico/US tour was great showed me so many places I've never been to.Looking forward to more adventures at home.

I miss that place. I worked there several years back at a plant my boss was liquidating. I lived on-site for over two years. So fun! A little background info for you. You know that huge parking lot we'll that's where the army learns to fly, land Ospreys. Those things are huge! From where you were at that lot my Plant was just over and down the hill. First one. 292,000 square feet. Used to be Boise Cascade then New wood. The round building used to be their photography darkroom of sorts. Now its just a parking garage. The army plays their training games there several times a year so there's tanks and way cool vehicles you don't see everyday or maybe not at all. Look like a normal trunk then it folds out with about a 50 foot extending gun and the sides turn it into a big closure type tent. You wouldn't know it was the same vehicle. That little show was smack dab in front of the entry office doors in our lot that faced the landing pad for the Ospreys. Blackhawks were always training there and that was fun. Both the Osprey and Blackhawk would fly directly over the backyard of the plant and they'd stop and make it tip its nose down as if to bow at you. Cool stuff! The fire department also does their training games there and that can be a little scary as they blow up cars and then put out the flames. I've never felt the ground shake so hard and for so long ever. They'd also have contest to see who'd get to the top of the tower first. Scary watching them although they were harnessed up thank goodness. That tunnel you were pointing to goes underground to a huge cement pipe that the skateboarders love and that thing you thought was a drill is the reactor with all the yucky out of it. Dot.Com has a big building up there and one guy uses the kitchen for his awesome hot sauce and salsa. Remember the big Volkswagen recall? Well they parked close to 300,000 of them right up top across from our plant and directly in front of one of the biggest dispensary grows in Wa. Guys from Russia and grows some mean weed. Some were stored down the hill by the power steam plant. Looked like an ocean of cars. Every once in awhile a pink, red or yellow would pop up like a bouy floating amongst the waves of gray, white, silver, and black. I could go on forever but I won't. Lol Oh one more..as you get to the bottom of the hill coming down on the right side of the plant you'll pass a huge osprey nest after you cross the bridge. Then depending on the time of year you'll see lots of cows in the right side and during migration it gets swampy and that's when the swans come in and have their 100's maybe thousands of babies. Largely flock in Washington maybe even surrounding states. Its really something to see. Kind of like angels floating out there in the knee deep grass, water and Muck. Also hands down the best rainbows and sunsets of anywhere in the World. And the sunsets seem to grace us nightly. It's incredible. Happy Travels~

There's a couple huge water pumps still in that pipe under tower #5. I worked in "hole 3".

That’s sad to see. We need more nuclear power. Cleanest and safest form of energy we currently have. And we have long figured out a safe and sustainable way of disposing of nuclear waste. And thee amount of waste these days is tiny compared to what it used to be. Just a shame places like Chernobyl gave nuclear a bad name. Meanwhile if ya look into Chernobyl it’s easy to see how it happened. Pure negligence and cost cutting at every corner. Was easily preventable. 2 types of reactors, positive coefficient and negative coefficient. Negative is what 98% of reactors today are, what that means is if any one of the pieces required to form a reaction is removed, the reaction automatically shuts itself down, no meltdown. Chernobyl was a positive reactor, loose one component of the reaction and it runs away uncontrollably and results in what happened. The Chernobyl type reactor is nearly half the cost of the ones we use today hence why Soviet Russia used them.
