Excellent video. Thanks for sharing. As I used to live at Marrickville, this entire line closure has been of special interest to me. I remember on many occasions traveling by train to Bankstown to visit Bankstown Square. I remember on one of my early trips to Bankstown, they had red double deck buses running there. Many years ago, we even had relatives living at both Punchbowl and Lakemba.

This evolving new Metro system is not just revolusionary in its application & design. Its transcending the very way sydney people move around, offering a modern & comprehensive set of new platforms with automation being its key component. While Transitioning from Station to Location & vice Versa, this fully computerised rail network compliments even the most basic aspects of public mass transit systems with much quicker delivery times between stations & maximising its frequency & rates of service. With less stops, faster speeds & a Higher emphasis on public safety with gated entries to trains. A truly Phenomenal feat of engineering & construction set to keep sydney ahead of the pack well into the future.

Me too … more please🎉😅 … having grown up in Sydney and now in another state it’s really fascinating to see the progress … or changes those suburbs had from memory a cinema and a few streets of basic shops and serviced by the buses and of course, the old red rattlers

A NICE LONG VIDEO.. I hope they don't demolish these beautiful little buildings on these suburban platforms..they are history of the past... You mentioned Liverpool line VIA Sefton.. will the Liverpool line VIA Merrylands still be operating.. thanks..🚞

Hi Phil, I was on the train yesterday from Chester Hill to Erskineville. It is sad but look at it this way, the services to City Circle via Regents Park will resume and in my opinion is faster and a bit cheaper than going through the Bankstown line, from Chester Hill anyway. The public who live between Bankstown and Marrickville will be in for a treat for faster and efficient services once the Metro is ready. My question is once the Metro is completed on the Bankstown line, will the Government expand the line towards Liverpool and the new airport?

Exact same video you just uploaded to your Sydney Trains Vlogs channel lol But I suppose it's something that will be temporary abandoned of rail transport for a year after all.

I don't live in Sydney but I feel like it would have made more sense to take the Metro to Regents Park because it seems like Birrong and Yagoona station really got the short end of the stick 😢

There is some discussion that an over 150 year old railway path is not suitable for a driverless metro train. The first part of this metro train in Sydney is fairly new, and either underground or raised. This old section is at ground level, has more curves and many overhead bridges and trees aligning the route. What if one of those trees falls onto the driverless train track?. What if a trespasser is on the line?. An over pass collapses?. What if there is flash flooding?. I'm not sure I'd feel safe 100% of the time.

The best thing to be done at Bankstown is to *KEEP IT OPEN!* Driverless trains are a catastrophe waiting to happen. While there's a driver on board, he/she can override any troublesome device and control the train manually in order to *PREVENT* any possible disasters.

I’ve literally only taken two or three trains in the last decade, but I thought I was “Transport NSW”, not “Transport Sydney”. I didn’t know there was such a thing.

It does not appear that there will be pedestrian access between the old and new platforms , however the Metro platforms are closer to Bankstown Square than the present concourse .

I seem to recall hearing about a plan back in the 90's to demolish Bankstown station and to rebuild it closer to Bankstown square, with some sort of walkway providing direct access to the shopping center.

I wonder what the future will bring. Driverless trains everywhere? I wonder if though what if there is a train accident?
@just_passing_through

I guess they will just follow the same protocol as other countries which already use driverless trains. Having said that though, there are far fewer train accidents with fully computerised driverless rail systems than there are with traditional rail systems.
