Very Cool - I can't believe it's survived in fairly good shape after being abandoned for a hundred years!

I went here for a field trip with a Elder bless him for taking us to this sacred place, I’d like to recognize this is on the unseated Territory of the Cowichan people.

I hate to see people putting graffiti on places like that. It would be an interesting place to do a ghost hunt and see if there is anything to the claims. Building on sacred land usually doesn't turn out well, one way or the other.

Unfortunately most of these places do attract vandals. I don't share specific locations, but usually it's quite easy to track down with the internet.

Appreciate the archival images, and late 50s footage. It would great if a local group can secure future funding for some new restoration work. It's worth saving. With the pandemic taking so much provincial resources across the country, it may limit available government money for grants.

Given the age of this structure, it's hard to believe that it hasn't been recognized as a historic site. Perhaps there are challenges given the location on First Nations land, but it would be amazing to see this fixed up and restored.

I’ve learned that anything built on sacred Indian land is never a good thing. 👻😳 Fascinating story of this place. Thank you Graham, I hope I spelled your name right. 😊👍✌️

I live in Cowichan Bay and I walked up there last summer. Met a nice First Nations man cutting his grass and asked if it was ok to go up to the church. He said yes, and thank you for asking. Just be respectful up there if you go. It looks much prettier up there in summer when the trees are green.

I have actually always wanted to get to the church, but haven't been yet. Next your in Duncan you should go find the grave of Lieutenant Colonel Richard Stocker, the younger brother of Bram Stocker. I hear Richard is buried in the graveyard of St. Peter's Anglican church with his wife (I've seen photos of it but haven't been myself). It's just something cool to check out. And some cool history.

Local here, I once went and there was a ring of salt inside- a bit creepy but nothing that would steer me away. I love this place :)

It's been fifty years since they last did the roof. It looked in ok shape, but it won't last forever.

Beautiful building. Thank you! I could see a 1980s rock music video being filmed here. lol Nice, the way you have toned down the saturation. It adds very much to the atmosphere.
