In this video, we introduce you to a guided reading approach that promotes care and activism in our middle and secondary readers. We model how to name the harm and look for joy in reading about historically marginalized characters. We share step-by-step thinking and moves to model this in your English language arts classroom. This can also be used for literary analysis writing as an approach to analyzing texts after guided reading instruction. This presentation was originally recorded for an NCTE session.
