I'm going to go out on a limb here, and declare this THE most exquisite pop record ever made. Those of us of a certain age have heard it over and over during our lives, but it's very worth taking a step back and try to listen and concentrate on what's going on here. The components, the production, everything gels into something truly magical. I genuinely think it is the zenith of their career, but that isn't to say that there isn't more awesomeness to come, because it's ABBA. You absolutely can't go wrong with them.

When Radio 1 kicked off it’s “Greatest Hits” series to celebrate its 50th anniversary this was the very first song they played. 50 years of music, an endless list of artists but this was the one they kicked it off with. Pretty much says it all, timeless group, timeless song.

Great reaction! My music tastes are pretty eclectic…as a child of the 70’s, ABBA, AC/DC, and Queen have always been in my top fave groups. IMO ABBA was ahead of their time, their music may seem to be simple, but as you listen more, you find the complexity that makes it sound straightforward. Plus the vocals from Frita and Agnetha are just superb.

At the time of filming on the 2nd February 1976 ("Dancing Queen" was released as a single in Sweden on 15 August 1976), the location at Döbelnsgatan 3 was the premises of the discotheque Fattighuset. The song was ABBA's only US Number 1 but also topped the charts in the UK, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, The Netherlands, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, Norway, Rhodesia, and Sweden and went Top 10 virtually everywhere else as the first single from the Arrival album.

Well, the day comes and You finaly arrive to "Dancing Queen" ABBA started recording the song a year before, the first thing they had was the melody, and that was the one that Benny made Frida listen to and she broke down in tears and when Agnetha listened to it, she felt it was going to be a great success he had her work, due to ABBA's permanent search for perfection, it even had one more verse that was not finally included (and it could have remained, there is a video with the girls singing it) at the time of starting the recording ABBA had already released "S.O.S." and entered the Top 10 in the UK and Top 15 in the USA then it followed the #1 of "Mamma Mia" in Australia and UK and when they were hoping to release "Dancing Queen" it was their manager Stig Anderson who suggested recording "Fernando" and releasing it earlier, to give more versatility to ABBA's music and he was not mistaken, "Fernando" was a huge success, especially in Australia and UK again (Manager Stig Anderson was always important in ABBA's career, he believed in the potential of the four of them as a whole and felt that they were going to achieve international success, but that as they were Swedish they needed the massiveness that the Eurovision contest gave, so he drew up a strategy for the competition in England with the iconic piece "Waterloo", and the result of him was the long-awaited triumph) Until finally it was the turn of "Dancing Queen" and it was a colossal success, which definitively consecrated ABBA that year 1976 "Dancing Queen" technically has the most brilliant choral work harmonizing the voices of Frida's mezzo soprano and Agnetha's soprano. The boys made each one rise up to the pitch of the other; So Agnetha knows, that a cv om she has to work harder in the bass tones and Frida in the treble to achieve excellent voices, to accompany a wonderful melody from the initial chord and super catchy and danceable "Dancing Queen" for many is the best ABBA song A few years ago they were inducted into the Hall of Fame For me it is just a step below "S.O.S.", on the same level as "Waterloo" and 'The winner takes it all" (this last I wait yo react much later, it's from 1980) "Dancing Queen" is a Masterpiece from the album "Arrival", the more fantastic pop of ABBA There is a lot of greatest songs and hits to react there, but I want to suggest a fantastic ballad: "My love My life" there is a special video in wich only appears Agnetha, the lead singer in this song kzitem.info/news/bejne/pG2lz4uYemiZd5g I want to Say thank you for continue with the ABBA songs GOD bless you and your family My best regards from Buenos Aires Argentina

Brilliant reaction, sir! love all yours i believe the video was filmed in a "discothèque" in Stockholm, at the end of 1975 very much an example of early disco from the mid-70s: rhythm quite laid back, not as fast-paced & frenetic as disco became towards the end of the 70s & which by the early 80s had transformed into what was called "hi-energy" *simplified pronunciation of Agnetha is "Ann-yetta" Looking forward to more of your Abba reactions, my friend always so intelligent, spontaneous, open-hearted, emotional Well done mate x

*by the way, it was released a few months after the video was filmed, after another record they already had out had dropped down the charts - "Fernando" (& immediately prior to that one, "Mamma Mia") "Dancing Queen" was UK Number 1 for six weeks in the early summer of 1976 (i remember it well, as a ten year-old lad...1976 was the year of the big Heatwave too) But i was heartbroken when it was finally knocked off Number 1 by a song called "Mississippi" by the Pussycats

You have to give credit to their manager, Stikkan (Stig) Andersson, who was also known as the «5th member of the group». He was very much involved with their music in the beginning. He contributed much to their early successes (including «Dancing Queen»). He is also the one who came up with the name «ABBA».... he had the idea of taking the first letters from each of their first names, and coming up with the «acronym».... which interestingly enough is also a «palindrome». This was performed at a nightclub in Stockholm, called «Alexandra's».

If you didn’t have this Album in the mid 70’s, in Australia, you were considered very, very, uncool. To answer your question about where they made Videos, these were their Videos, MTV was a show of Music Videos, back then it was just as important to put out a great video as it was to drop a great Album.🎼❤️🇦🇺❤️🇬🇧🕺🏻💃🎸☘️

Back in my day they were a guilty pleasure. Your Hard Rock /Blues card would be revoked if you were caught enjoying this music at all. But then I was a big Tom Jones fan. I preferred Sir Tom to Elvis and got into some minor scuffles over that preference. I loved cranking ABBA up as loud as I could before distortion would rear it's ugly head. But these guys at about 9-9.5 were great. I used to have all the neighbor girls over for a dance party. Definitely a come as you are, and as frequently as you could manage. Usually a weekend afternoon when the parents were gone for 3-4 hours. You had to work fast but the pay-out was well worth the effort.
