One of their greatest songs. The song builds with Frida’s wonderful operatic backing.

The contrast it produces is incredible. In its time it was almost ignored by critics and commercially. So much so that it was ABBA's biggest chart flop since "So Long" in 1974. But it was vindicated many years later in that UK TV special that chose the best ABBA song among all their singles. and "The day before you came" closed the podium, behind "Dancing Queen" in second place and the first place to "The winner takes it all" The official video also features Agnetha alone, with a co-star, for the entire first half of the song. And just after the instrumental bridge, the three remaining members of ABBA appear, completely separated, disconnected from each other, on the stage of a theater or cinema, with Agnetha singing and the rest 'in a passive pose'. That video is a reflection of what ABBA was at that time before their breakup and at the same time their 10-year anniversary. "The day before you came" is the second longest of ABBA (only surpassed by "Eagle", by a couple of seconds) But I think that the final minute is left over For many it is a Masterpiece, for many it is the best ABBA song And surely you will have many comments and views here And it's perfect But for me it is one more song, routine like its rhythm and lyrics, it doesn't even enter my Top50 of the fantastic ABBA catalog with "The day before you came" For me the same applies as for the previous one "Like an angel passing through my room" I see them as if they were songs by solo singers, not by a group like ABBA as Björn and Benny have said, 90% of the ABBA sound is the combined voices of Agnetha and Frida, they together make the Magic of ABBA and in these songs for me that magic is missing But that's what it's all about, the variety of opinions and tastes, and sharing with respect in their diversity. best regards to all

Isn't it just and what was stuck as it's B-side is astounding. They're all miles away from the like of 'Dancing Queen'-and acting like THAT was such a problem on release, when it's only a good thing. It's called artistic development and advancement, get over it madogga lovers.

This song has been in my top 2 favourite ABBA songs for the last 35 years. Love it so much. So poignant, haunting. Although the lyrics are only mildly depressing, almost reading like a journal entry from a bored & lonely women, the vocals, atmosphere, music, etc, give this a haunting & tragic quality. It should be a happy song considering she is remembering a person of influence that came into her life. But it is not. There are countless interpretations but the not knowing what was inside Benny & Bjorn's head when writing this song keeps us guessing. But a beautiful, bewitching song which was released at the end of their career in 1982.

One of their last recordings... A great song that gives an idea of what ABBA would have been in the 80's, had such a long 'break' not occurred... See ya ✌️, Zeddy. Love ❤️ from Chile 🇨🇱🤗👍

Одна из лучших песен АББА. И последняя их песня. Агнета когда закончила петь при записи в студии, она расплакалась. Это была точка , дальше все разошлись. Больше они в 20 веке не записывались вместе. Зато порадовали нас спустя 40 лет.

Having commanded the pop world for at least 7 years at this point in 1981, in their dying embers as a group they still managed to produce what I think it their best album "The Visitors". And had time to pop this out, a gloomy Scandinavian melancholic masterpiece, as their final recording. It's a stunning track, and has all kinds of hidden meanings if one wants to delve into that. I don't trust anyone who has any interest in music who says they don't at least appreciate ABBA. They consistently poured out banger, after banger, after banger - there's never been, and never will be any band like that again. They returned to us recently in a glorious moment, but that original run of theirs is a legacy that resonates to this day. ABBA will never get old, thanks to the likes of you who discover the magnificence, and pass it on to new generations who should never be without it.

Unusually for ABBA, the song was written in the studio and features no instruments apart from a synth and a Linn drum machine (and a snare overdub). It was their last known recording session together in late August 1982 until May/June 2017.

Funny how the first thing he says is how different the video is for ABBA, but not the song. But at the same time, while it's doing many brave things, considering where they went musically from 1980 to 1981, is this really such a huge leap in alienation as too many idiots felt it was on release?

Can you start doing some reactions to Linda Ronstadt? She’s one of the most amazing singers from the 70s, and sang about every genre you can think of, and her voice is amazing. Try her song Desperado, the studio version. Or the official video for tracks of my tears. Those are a good start.
