Don’t forget, they’re HIS lyrics, expressing his own pain. They are words coming from both people. This is after 42 years of listening and learning. However, as one major record producer pointed out, Björn wrote his lyrics, Agnetha sang them. So the perception is that it’s all her pain. It’s really both of them. And the winner? Probably Björn’s 2nd wife of 41 years. This is all four band members’ favorite song of all their hits.

I didn't grow up with Abba. My mother has it all on vinyl and CD. I started listening to Abba when I was 16. When I turn up Dancing Queen or "Gimme gimme gimme" my mother starts dancing and smiling. Me too :-) As great as the appreciation for Abba later became ... I don't think any of these people listened to the lyrics. The lyrics are phenomenally good, the sound is pure perfection ... together with the voices it is and remains unmatched. At 25 I am not ashamed to say: I am an Abba fan. And if nobody remembers us anymore ... Abba will be remembered when there is no more electricity and her songs can no longer be played ... everyone will hum the songs to themselves ... and smile.

@@m.menneke8513 I suppose if the song was inspired by her feelings then your point makes sense. My point was that it is missing ABBA's primary strength, ABBA, not just A. But it really is ok for one person to have a viewpoint and not have that evoke upset. I didn't say the song sucks, but it doesn't really represent the band. For me, this song is just average pop compared to their others, so for a first reaction it doesn't showcase what makes them special. Anyone with a good voice could have done it. There's a chilling back story to the band. The other woman, the reddish brown haired one, Anni-Frid Lyngstad was born in Norway and her father was a WW2 German soldier. So after the war her mother and her fled Norway to Sweden because women who had affairs with German soldiers were punished, publicly humiliated, beaten, their heads shaved. Children od German soldiers were outcasts in post-war Norwegian society, they were abused, even experiments were done on them. The mother died soon after and Anni-Frid was raised by relatives. Only when she became famous with ABBA did she tell about all this to a newspaper, and a young German guy who read the interview recognized his father as the German soldier. So he went home and asked his father: During the war did you have an affair with a Norwegian woman named Synni Lyngstad? The old man admitted, to which the son repluied: congratulations, you're the father of the brown haired girl from ABBA. She actually met her father but it wasn't a good experience, she couldn't relate to him. After ABBA split up she married a nobleman in Germany who died later in a car accident. So today she is actually Her Serene Highness Princess Anni-Frid, Countess of Plauen.

They weren't just one of the most successful "pop" group of the 70s, but of all time. There are only a small handful of artists that out sold them or had more #1 hit singles. Their stats are impressive with 380,000,000 to 400,000,000 records sold worldwide and 21 number one hits singles worldwide. It doesn't stop there, there are 4 movies and one musical based on the music of ABBA. To this day they still sell 1,000,000 records per year. You guys should check out ABBA's song Happy New Year, it's the perfect time for it. They are the second-most successful band of all time, after the Beatles. Their catalog has over 100 songs, spanning a whole variety of genres. Here's a selection: - Dancing Queen (1976) 3:50 [Their biggest hit. Brilliant harmonies] - Eagle (Album Version) (1977) 5:51 [Has a psychedelic sound. Pick the full 6 minute album version, not the abridged music video!] - Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) (1979) 4:49 [Disco pop at its best. Pick the full version, not the shorter music video] - Voulez-Vous (1979) 5:11 [One of the best disco songs ever] - The Name of the Game (1977) 4:54 [one of their most sophisticated songs, lots of transitions] - Take a Chance on Me (1977) 4:05 [Another major hit. Very catchy, with nice backing by the guys] - The Day Before You Came (1982) 5:50 [A personal favorite. Very haunting ballad] - Chiquitita (1979) 5:26 [Spanish influenced. Downbeat verses with an upbeat chorus. One of their best] - Knowing Me, Knowing You (1976) 4:02 [one of many breakup songs] - I'm a Marionette (1977) 3:54 [Their most dramatic song. Large orchestral sound, with intense vocals] - Lay All Your Love on Me (1980) 4:33 [half disco - half synth pop. Nice vocoder effects] - Summer Night City (Full-length Version) (1978) 4:18 [pick the 'unreleased' version with the extra intro] - My Mama Said (1974) 3:14 [very unusual song for them, a funky soul ballad] - The Way Old Friends Do (live) (1980) 2:53 [Practically an anthem. Pick the audio-only live track from the Super Trouper album] - Thank You for the Music (1977) 3:48 [An ode to music, sung by Agnetha] - I Let the Music Speak (1981) 5:20 [Another ode to music, by Frida. Very complex song, with a lovely orchestral arrangement] - Money, Money, Money (1976) 3:05 [a darker, more theatrical song. Great vocals by Frida] - Does Your Mother Know (1979) 3:13 [more disco, this time with Björn on vocals] - I've Been Waiting for You (1975) 3:39 [Lovely vocals by Agnetha, and great harmonies (as usual)] - My Love, My Life (1976) 3:52 [layered backing harmonies, creating a wall of sound] - Super Trouper (1980) 4:13 [really catchy pop song] - The Visitors (Album Version) (1981) 5:49 [Builds slowly to a climax. The vocoder gives Frida's voice a haunting sound] - Fernando (1975) 4:15 [another ballad with Spanish influences] - Waterloo (1974) 2:46 [a fun uptempo pop song, which was their international breakthrough] - Disillusion (1973) 3:04 [beautiful ballad written and sung by Agnetha] - I Have a Dream (1979) 4:44 [lovely children's song with a choir at the end] - Mamma Mia (1975) 3:32 [one of their biggest hits] - SOS (1975) 3:22 [similar to Mamma Mia] - When All Is Said and Done (1981) 3:20 [Frida's breakup song] - One of Us (1981) 3:55 [another breakup song] - Our Last Summer (1980) 4:18 [melancholic ballad by Frida]

Here is a great female singer from the 80's 'Pat Benatar' 'Hit Me With Your Best Shot' or 'Heartbreaker'.

Her hits are great. But my favorite of hers is 'Hell is for Children,' which I never hear anymore. 'Love is a Battlefield' is another good one.

What an emotional ballad. Try kisses of fire by Abba or Hole in your soul. Vocal challenges.
