Relatable. I’ve never said it, they’ve never said it, but we all know that we all care abouth each other. In Asian culture, it’s really not a thing, you don’t tell your parents you love them once in the morning, once at noon, and once in the evening, instead you show love through small actions. It’s a strange part of our culture but that’s how it is. To be honest I don’t mind since I’m super awkward lol.

My college roommate always ended her phone calls with her her sister with, “love you.” It really stood out to me, so I told my mom about it. Then she said,” ok, let’s try it too!” and actually ended our call by saying, “我愛妳.” I couldn’t say it back and just started giggling instead.

From a Latin-American point of view, this is REALLY weird to me. We tend to say "I love you" to our parents often, and most of us hear it back frequently! But I also know it helps that Spanish lends itself well to expressing feeling. "Mami, te adoro" (Mommy, I adore you), or "te quiero mucho, papi" (I love you a lot, daddy), do not sound awkward at all, either culturally or phonetically speaking, I'm guessing anywhere in Latin America (i'm from Colombia). Especially in special occasions. So I think part of it may be the language?
@sonumoment4362

giligara30492 In Finnish I love you is "Minä rakastan sinua" which sounds iNCREDIBLY awkward and I have never said that to my parents lmao,,, I love you is much more less meaningful than the Finnish version I think lol You can say I love you to a friend but not Minä rakastan sinua, it's too passionate, it sounds like u'r going to get married 😂
@chrissuka2557

If you say it often, it can sometimes feel like needing and inviting affection with close ones and from my experience. It loses its original shock OMG value compared to the very first time you say it. It gets easier with practise 😉 First tone I've said it to my dad was shortly when I left home years ago and it was very awkward back then but it ran very deep. I said it twice just before leaving. I still remember both times. And he knows we care for each other alot. 😢
@Cardcaptorsfanx249
6 жыл бұрын
Personally, I don't think saying it a lot loses its meaning. Latino culture is very different. We are openly affectionate and expressive with our feelings whether it's saying 'I love you' or hugging, kissing, etc. That's just how we are, and it would be considered EXTREMELY rude and cold if someone wasn't affectionate. I tell my parents that I love them every day and they say the same to me. Never once have I thought that the phrase has lost all its meaning or value just because it is said so often.
@chrissuka2557
6 жыл бұрын
@@Cardcaptorsfanx249 sorry I didn't explain it properly. Nowadays I usually tell my mum I love her and occasionally to my dad. And I fully agree with what u said. The VERY First time you say it to your parents when you're already a grown adult. It's extremely awkward but heart string pulling to a very intense degree. I still remember that singular moment when I said it for the first time. I think I wss 19. I only meant that feeling of awkwardness and intense novelty that goes away. But the feeling of affection and closeness stays. It's still there. Telling my patents that I love them doesn't feel the same as the very first time. It's still affectionate but it didn't have that groundbreaking OMG feeling. It's like telling your sibling you love them for the first time as an adult. Regardless I explained my prior comment really poorly so sorry about my bad english. 😅

I grew up kinda like without him cause he worked at different state and we only met for 2-3 days every month. I know it will get awkward when I say it. More over my dad is a stubborn and doesn't show his affection to me as I wanted it to be, he's a rough person. But I remember I said I love you to my dad when things were difficult after my parents divorce... :')

I’m Asian American and my parents are Asian immigrants. I am so blessed and grateful that my parents have been telling me they love me ever since I was a child. It is so important for us humans to hear those words “I love you” and “I’m proud of you”, and I hope new generation Asians also say these loving words to their children. It truly makes a difference in your mental health. I’m 28 years old and my parents and I still say “I love you” to each other after we see each other or get off the phone. Some people don’t say it enough and you just never know if it’ll be your last time hearing those words being said. To be vulnerable is a beautiful thing.
