Stunning! I don't envy the crew keeping those huge windows perfectly clean and streak free in a saltwater environment. The long slim hull reminds me a little of 'Silverfast', one of my favourite superyachts with incredible performance and fuel efficiency, so I agree with your conclusion that this is a likely aim of the design.

Mr David, may I request a video? You have probably seen all types of yacht and yacht design. If you to build one for yourself, what would it be? Explorer? Fast planing? Cruiser? Sail? Multi Hull? Maybe you could use example from yachts on the market as reference for us to better visualize it

There are many names for a bow of that style, but it appears to be their own take on a wave piercing bow. Features that make it a piercing vs ax: ax dips below the rest of the keel so that it remains in contact with the water while planing. Ax also features a flat nose. This bow design is flush with the keel, rakes back to allow green water up, and then on the top of the bow there's a feature to divert any green water that's rode up the bow, off. At the same time they do begin to open it up at the upper section of the bow to reduce the plunge into a wave. Overall I bet she's able to handle quite well at speed in rough seas -- far better than many yachts her size and larger. Not quite sure you'd really want to subject such a vessel to that, but given her metal hull, I'm sure she's designed to take a little bit more of beating than you'd want to give any pleasure yacht. The result is a boat that endure rough seas at higher speeds and better "comfort" than just about any other. Comfort used loosely -- If you're in seas to utilize that bow, nobody is enjoying comfort. Love the videos David! In the UNlikely even I'm ever looking for a yacht, I'd certainly give you a call. This video goes into the various designs of bows and their function kzitem.info/news/bejne/lpub1qmVqKl3e34

Fun story about Eminence, she was built to be Excellence V. When the owner was discussing his new yacht to St Barths port master about his new boat for following year he explained it was far too long to be accommodated in St Baths. Sells it. New Excellence V is commissioned volume of a 70m with a really short stern keeping it St Barths friendly.

In your last Vlog where you talked with Tim Haywood and he talked about the feminine form of yacht, I would say that the lines of "Excellence" are just that. A very striking yacht. It's interesting that there would seem to be more and more yachts that are breaking the mould of what a traditional design is and forging this "dreadnought" bow design. looking forward to the next one and of course an update on "Ragnar"

Another great video! A shame you haven't had the chance to do a walk-round, let alone a walk-through! I believe its called an X-bow, which improves hull efficiency through the water and minimises pitching. The downside is that it will go through the wave in a large swell, which can be quite intimidating! Hence the need for the sizeable breakwater in front of the superstructure windows to divert the waves that may come over the bow, which the designers have done a great job of blending in with the side navigation stations.

To be honest, when I hear "Abeking & Rasmussen" I think "Man, they could use a better company name. They sound like accountants or necktie salesmen, not heavy sports-industry powers." Couldn't think of anything more clever than slapping their own damn names on the side of the box, huh? How about "Sea Ax" (there's a bit of an old joke in German in there) or "Vesselage" (which sounds like it means at least a couple cool ideas at the same time). Even a good name-chopjob would be better: "RasKing" or "AbeUssen" at least have some flow and proper insinuation to them. (Well, you asked...) Anyway, I just penned/layout a couple options in a new style (new to me) in that size range, that are eerily similar in several ways to what happened here, so I'll "hazard a guess" at the point of the boat, literally. There are several defensive aspects and features (especially subsurface lines & progressive deck proportions) that are meant for particular applications, to my eye. It makes me think all that "glass" is really laminate or polycarb, too, hanging there ready to flex back, as much like a viking shieldwall as a visitor's center. So it's a whisker-hair away from being a stretch-trimaran with armored sides, and that means a big-blue hellcutter. I mean, just look at 3:53. Is that poly/indonesian lines thinking or what? It's not quite an iceberg-crusher, but I'll bet you it doesn't mind a little bumpin' & brushin' in the sensible season in high latitudes. Someone is looking to take on evil harsh weather and tell even the big storms: "Frak off, freak, we've got places to go and things to see." I'll bet it runs long range, near-polar rated, and happy to head upwind around the rough Cape oGH seas, or from Oz to Acapulco the hard way via McMurdo Sound and the Chilean archipelagos, sliding from ocean to ocean at its leisure. The south passages are evil bitches, but the "Excellence" looks like it's meant to make its way. If that isn't what it's for, it's a sick imposter and should get its lines revoked by "The Committee of Form and Function." The thing that aggravates me is that most of the arrogant bastards in the industry still aren't putting solar backup banks or vertical wind turbines on their boats. There's plenty of space for both on this one. Things can go wrong on the water, even diesel things, and if they are going to buy a million bucks worth of cut crystal dinnerware, they should be investing in at least D-E propulsion enough to get the job done right. Then, worse case scenario but you're still afloat with a screw that will turn, you can crawl back into port on passive energy systems rewired to the electric motors, plus have a night-light to read by, and write in the log about how you'll never try whatever that was again that seemed like such a good idea at the time. So I think it's meant for some daring. We'll see, but only a real jerk would build that and then park it in the Med all year. If they do, I'm taking it away from them and armoring it up for adventure :)
