Fabulous! I lived on Orkney for over 10 years and this brought back many pleasant flying experiences. I'm looking forward to what you have in store.

The Saabs will be going soon. To be replaced by ATRs. However Loganair are keeping the Islanders as there is nothing else really suitable for the type of legs they operate. I have flown twice to Kirkwall with Loganair. Once from Aberdeen and once from Edinburgh via Sumburgh on this occasion. We now drive up to Scrabster and get the ferry. It works out cheaper than hiring a car on Mainland.

Much prefer the Saab to the ATR, maybe it’s just because they’re less common in here parts. Will be a shame when they go. Kirkwall was fantastic btw, I’ll definitely return one day, probably via Scrabster next time 👍

I had a doctor's appointment today and he made me go to a near place where COVID tests are made and well, I had an antigen test and the result (I knewit in less than 5 minutes) was negative, so I'm already off of my 8-day quarantine (In Spain, the COVID's quarantine maximum time by the Government is 5 days or until you call for your doctor's appointment). So, I'm Covid-Free, again. Cheers for now!

This is a place I want to visit now I'm retired. My grandfather was stationed at Kirkwall from 1942-45 in the RAF. When he got a weeks leave it took him 3 days to get home to the Black Country by boat and train. And another 3 days to get back again. All that travelling just for one night and day at home! However, he soon cottoned on to hitching a lift in any plane going south. It didn't matter where it was going in mainland UK as it was always quicker as it cut out the ferry journey. Just once he was fortunate to get a lift on a plane that was going to Halfpenny Green Airfield which was only 7 miles from where he was living. And when he got there he immediately hitched a lift back to his home town of Quarry Bank in a lorry that had came from the same town. So, instead of 3 days to get home, that time he did it in about 4 hours. You couldn't even do it in this day and age in that shirlt a time. Many thanks. David in Devils Bridge.

6.40 the correct description of the runway should be Runway Two-Seven not Twenty-Seven. Other than that minor blip a good video. One major compliment, you do not indulge in the hugely irritating and pointless habit that many travel vloggers do - speeding up the take off and landing shots. So major kudos for that!
@LetsMakeaTrip

Hi Aidan, thanks for the comment. Yep, tbh I have done that speeding up thing in some previous videos but I tend not to bother now (others have said it can be irritating and I have listened) and yep I’m not too careful with getting all the terminology right as a) I don’t know half of it(!) and b) my ‘style’ of video (if I have one) tends to be a bit more casually laid back, which I know many can relate too. I do videos on lots of different modes of transport and I can assure you I don’t always get everything 100% right 😂 but I’ll try and remember this one for future and I hope you can enjoy some of my other stuff! Cheers.

Great video as always! Glad to see the tunnock caramel wafer is still offered on these shorter flights! The highlight of any Logan Air flight. ✈️
Saab 340s are the workhorses of rural Eastern Australia, mainly with Regional Express but also with a bunch of others. I’m surprised that the old Macair ones weren’t taken by a local Australian airline! Great video as always, thanks for posting

Fantastic flight, you spoke about the price, I've worked with people offshore (oil rigs) who live in Orkney and have some kind islander discount which makes the flight affordable for local residents.
@Timstravels01

You're spot on. It's called Air Discount Scheme.
@LetsMakeaTrip
2 жыл бұрын
Yes as Tim said, that’s the resident discount thing. I was pricing up the inter-island flights in the Orkneys and again there are similar discounts there. That said, the tourist prices are reasonable as well depending on whether you stay over or not (I guess that also helps the local economy too, especially on the smaller islands). Heavily subsidised as well which I’m sure Tim probably knows a lot more about that than me 😊👍

Great work once again . Magnificent part of the world, particularly when the weather is in your favour ( not always the case ) . Enjoy your travels and the bracing sea air . As a point of reference and nothing more -- I have often paid double the amount you had to fork out on return flights to mainland Britain. There again , I live in Hong Kong !!

Thank you sir! It’s a bit different to Hong Kong isn’t it! I flew there once, on a KLM 747 combi. I should know exactly when it was because we flew into the old Kai Tak airport and flew out of the new one. Must have been around 1998, an amazing approach and landing. Great days 👍✈️

The tunnocks wafer is a thoughtful touch by LoganAir, it looks like a nice, little airline. I'd love to take a flight with them to the Shetlands! How do you find so much information out about the specific aeroplane, such as it's history and where it's been operating in the past? And thanks for the video, I enjoyed it a lot!
@LetsMakeaTrip

Cheers James. Yes the Tunnocks is a bit of a Loganair tradition really - curtailed a bit during the pandemic it’s now back with a vengeance! By the time I’d finished this trip, I’d had so many I couldn’t eat anymore😂. Planefinders.net is a good source of info, tbh if you just type the registration into Google there’s loads of websites where you can find this stuff out.
